How to Replace Roof Sensors

We had a very stormy camp overlooking the sea in summer 2021, and forgot to bring the roof cover, so it turns out the driver's side took a good good soaking of salty spray.

Fast forward to 2025 and we started to get the warning bongs that the roof is still up, and the roof open icon on the control screen. Thanks to this thread, I identified the most rusty sensor (in fact the top bit fell off when I checked it).Then ordered the part. Cut the wires and soldered to the new sensor one by one. I didn't bother disconnecting the battery or removing the relevant fuse, just was extremely careful not to short the wires to ground or each-other.

1hr later and all working fine again. See photos.

Mine has just developed the same problem. Code 1000 that won’t clear. I can’t open the roof though!! Any ideas how to do it manually so I can get to and change the sensors?

Roof jammed whist on holiday

I wonder if anyone can help, I'm currently on the west coast of scotland in my 2007 california All was well till this morning, we'd woken up but were still lying in the upper bed when there was a loud clunk from the L/H roof support. Subsequent investigation showed that the hydraulic ram...

Just had mine replaced by Kernow transporters. Richard fitted them while I went for a coffee down on Marazion beach ( overlooking St Michael’s mount) which is a 10 minute walk away. Cleared the front drivers drains while he was at it! Took him about 2 hours as the roof was locked down and had to be raised electrically after removing part of the roof lining.
Great service. All for £325!

BMW dealer can order them, £12.16 (uk list price) from them

I've read through the tread, can anyone say if this applies to the VW cali 2023 model with the large control panel with a rotary knob? My fault seems to be slightly different. I'm not getting the 1000 code just a message saying Errorop-up roof. Please visit workshop.

Mine sometimes sticks half way down and i need to switch the ignition off for a while before it will clear the fault and let me put it down.

I've read all the info and im ready to replace the sensors but not sure its the same fault. If it was the closed sensors, why does it stop half way down.?
