Software Update

I dont think u can compare the old vw with later years. Full of software and sensors. I rather drive a modern vw than one from the 80s....

True, but many other brands manage to perfect the tech before selling at substantial prices to the public and then replying on recalls and updates which in some cases can't even be delivered over the air! if other brands can do this, why not VW?

Or they refuse to acknowledge the 03S bellows have a major design defect and reject a legit warranty claim even with multiple video's as evidence.

i got the same problem as you ...just had the 27T7 update but still no charging from external 240V...its back at the dealer again!....and mines a diesel as well...so the update looks duff!..ill ring them tomorrow...they are waiting on Germany.
funny thing is the van worked fine for the first 4 weeks!
Ok …the update done again a few days back …van worked perfectly (diesel) for another 4 days ..all external charging working ….until this morning …external power not available …external power still plugged in warning when it isn’t snd 5.0v showing on leisure batteries when they were both tested at 23.5v….the update worked for 4 days!

I think you're totally right regarding over air updates. Should be easier but I guess they always will be a car maker and not focus on the software.

I think you will find that OTA updates are done for the Base vehicle and Infotainment via the built in eSIM used for the SOS system, as on All VW commercial and non-commercial vehicles.
However the Camping/Habitation electronics/software have no connection to that system, hence software updates are done manually via the Dealer.

I'm sure you're quite correct, @WelshGas (as usual : - )), but my point is if for example my Model Y Tesla can have a 'camp mode' and update this over-the-air, then why can't VW with their massive camper heritage and huge wealth of experience in all things camping related, also have this ability?

I suppose because the California has the Leisure Batteries , EHU charger/Mains circuit, Fridge, Hydraulic roof and Parking Heater on a separate system and its not thought viable, in common with all the other Manufacturers/Converters who sell new Motorhomes/Campervans.
This is probably a one off software patch/upgrade on a new vehicle never to be repeated once they have it right whereas Infotainment and Base vehicle specific updates can evolve or require data updates overtime.
Somehow I don't think the Tesla Camping mode covers as much as the Californias does.

Did you guys get it resolved?

After 4 failed attempts to update my van they contacted VW Germany for advise and were informed that the update appeared to be installed (even though it failed each time..?). Now a week later the same issue with 5V/0% and not able to charge externally. Have it booked for another appointment. I checked and my software version is 2565 which sounds “older” than the one previously reported here so doubting the update was installed but what do I know.

Where does this "huge VW experience for campers" idea come from?
Surely it is the likes of hymer and westfalia that have the experience as it is starting to show with the later VW models (bellows/software/tech/taps.....the list just grows).
I think there is a younger generation of innovators working for VW who are trying to run before they mastered crawl!

The short version of this story is that we rejected our new T7 after 4 days after a complete failure of the rear electrical system - the diagnosis being DC/DC convertor failure in the rear control system - and a software issue.

We were due to pick up a replacement (identical vehicle) on Saturday - but got a call on sat morning to say that the vehicle (which had been on charge overnight) had thrown up the hook up cable connected message when it wasn't connected and the rear batteries weren't charging. Disappointed is an understatement.

However, after many discussions with the dealer, it would appear that the much publicised 'software update' for the rear control module has been released by VW this morning - so the dealer is applying that as I type this, in the hope that I can get this new van this week.
Hi there.
Just joined this forum around a week ago as my wife and I became new owners of a brand new Cali T7 Coast. We are having the same issues as you. Leisure batteries losing charge (-2.6amp) when nothing is on in the van just sat on the driveway. I booked in for next Thursday (October 9th) for it to be investigated.
In the meantime, ahead of a planned maiden trip this weekend, I hooked up to the 240v at home to charge up the aux battery and after unplugging have the same warning that you have described. “Charge lead attached”.
I am only 250 miles into this van. I love it and dont want to reject but now worried that ive bought a ‘test’ van which needs loads of updates before I can enjoy it properly.
I had the same issue with a Tiguan around a year ago that I rejected and the new one seems fine.
How did you go about rejecting yours?
Im only thinking ahead. I don’t want to send it back but I don’t want anothe 9 months of hell like i had with the Tiguan. I might consider backing it sooner if they don’t nail this issue next Thursday.

Nice to meet you all and read all of your comments by the way.

I only wish I was telling you how great my van was whilst viewing something nice on my hols rather than staring at the voltage drop on my cali screen. LOL

Hi, I have the issue you described as well. On ringing around dealers, 2 of them have told me that the problem of the failed SW 2650 upload into the van was because of a control module fault and on replacement the upload recall was able to be completed. This is what my VW techs have said to me. However you need to emphasise to your dealer that it may take several attempts to install and take ~ 7hours to do. I have found out that 240v is still available in the van and if not wild-camping the van will be OK on pitch. I missed a great week’s weather in the Lakes a little while back thinking that this wouldn’t be the case. Unfortunately the place I took it to didn’t send a tech report to VW as they said they would and 2 weeks have passed with nothing likely to happen. This I discovered after contacting VW customer support on advice of another dealer. My first sign of an issue (mine is an Ocean and one of the first in the country - got in late March) occurred back around June when it made a weak alarm noise, flashed indicator lights and refolded the wing mirrors with completely dead batteries. This after 3 weeks left stationary on the drive. The AA man got it going after taking a half-hour resetting things.
