Hi,

The infotainment screen of my 2017 California Ocean has developed a rather large bubble across the top and down the right side. It was stored under a breathable cover for 4 months. There was no evidence of this before storage.

The screen still functions normally but it is annoying. I am curious as to whether this will simply disappear once the van has been exposed to warmer conditions.

Has anyone experienced this and does it right itself over time?

Please see attached photo.IMG_1388.jpeg

Thank you in advance.

You could try a hair dryer on a strong setting - but moving it about (not keeping it in one place).
Maybe then the heat applied could make that dry up - or even when you are doing that with the hair dryer - use the edge of a store card / ccard to softly push the bubble to the edge.

Not taking responsibility that it will fix it or making it worse - but you can try that instead of waiting for warmer conditions.

I am sure someone will comment to say if the screen is fixable or not. :)

Sat Nav Systems Surbiton, - give them a call , they can do it at their premises or via postal service.

They will advise how to get the unit out and post it.

Brought some dashboard tools from Amazon. At £4 and a screen from Amazon for £18
Quite a simple job tbh just follow the instructions on YouTube

Did you change the screen or overlay new on old ?

You lay the screen on the old one. The original is bonded to the display. There is room and you can't tell once done

In the case of my screen fault which appears to be delamination of the digitiser from the actual screen, do I need to replace the whole screen assembly as I suspect the bubble will still be visible through the digitiser.

Even though there is a bubble, the entire screen appears to be fully functional.

Clarification on this would be much appreciated.

Yes if yours has bubbled it needs the digitiser removing and replacing.

If you are open to DIY its £20 and 1-2 hours.

If not then its a local specialist that will give it a go or a postal exchange service. Id expect £200+ for someone to take on the work with a warranty.

Thank you for your advice. I'm up for the challenge!

If you're going for the DIY route, just take your time removing the old digitiser - some of the YouTube videos make it look easier than it actually is! The plastic trim tools are definitely worth getting as they help avoid scratching the bezel.

Plenty of videos out there but as cpaharley2008 say's only some are helpful. I found replacement fairly straightforward following these two. Remove the media unit, place on table in front of a computer and step through the second video one stage at a time.

You'll need the media unit serial number for buying the correct screen ... I forget whereabouts but its in the menu system.

You are correct. As the screen is fully functional, the digitiser has started to separate from the screen. If you just put a new digitiser over the top, it will look exactly the same as it does at the moment. You could try to separate the digitiser from the screen but that is quite difficult and risks damaging the screen. Probably the best option is to replace with a complete new digitiser and screen unit. These are available on eBay but are obviously more expensive than just a digitiser, somewhere between £100 - £150. You will need the device part number of the head unit, which can be found from the Menu>Setting>System Information. Once removed there is also a number on the digitiser/screen unit.
