UK DIESEL PRICES.

I’ve been speaking with taxi drivers all around europe for the last 14 years, the first 8 years everything fine, the last 6 years since covid, the whole of Europe is messed up, like every single taxi driver I speak to know says 90% of customers don’t speak, in their own little world, treat taxi driver like poop on their shoe. They say the whole world has gone mad.
Everything worse, it’s a very strange world we live in now and the fuel cost makes no sense.
We have 200 years worth of crude in the North Sea, I don’t understand why they make a 100 year plan.
After reading the wastage stories, it’s how some leaders are faking it to make it and provide reliable pension for the friends and family unfortunately. Everyman for himself.
Distract the workers (look, over there, £2 pint and you can drink at the footie)
And don’t get me started on Halal cheap meat.
Wta fluff is that all about.
Why are we using expensive diesel to haul animals to be inhumanly killed for the sake of 5% of the people who hate our way of life.
Get my Irish passport and I’m off to the Emerald Isle.

I like a lot of that rant :thumb. In particular, young people just seem so rude compared to this particular 58 year old (going on 88 year old). However, I don’t think Ireland are free of “nonsensery” and have a few problems of their own, to be sure.

I have travelled to Italy via Rotterdam and paid €2.96.9 for diesel on the motorway.
Around €2.40 seems to be the norm.

Take a small detour to Sweden - just £1.74 per litre at the moment!
Anyone in Slovenia currently? I bet that they’re still the winners.

Some actual facts:

1. It’s not 200 years (10-20 looking at the figures, happy to be corrected).
2. Listing in years is actually meaningless as the modern world is making a switch to sustainable electrification and demand is dropping.
3. This is a hard economic and geopolitical switch. Ie. Switch to cheaper and for national security reasons. (I’ll leave moral considerations out of it).
4. Oil & gas possible is not necessarily o&g extraction that’s economically feasible.

Might come in handy yet!
The Times headline today: “Britain at risk of diesel shortages as Trump threatens export ban”.
He never threatens 5 minutes of quiet does he?
Donald rarely thinks about the detail.

To grasp why an export ban would be unwise, consider what Mr Trump’s own energy secretary, Chris Wright, had to say at an event organised by The Economist on September 23rd. “The blunt tool of banning diesel exports definitely doesn’t work,” he explained. “That same refinery that produces diesel also produces gasoline and jet fuel, so if you can’t export the diesel that comes out of our refineries, you run out of places to store it, and you have to reduce us refining, which would put upward pressure on gasoline prices and jet-fuel prices.”

Some might refine that to Trump rarely thinks.

I live quite near the Esso refinery in Fawley. They are apparently flat out refining diesel from South African oil, one of the few refineries in the world able to work with what is apparently a lower grade of crude.

The geopolitical situation caused almost entirely by the Tango Sh*t Gibbon’s foreign policy blunders is surmountable but it won’t stop the oil companies and market speculators making hay whilst we consumers foot the bill. Always a conundrum for the government (which ever party it is) to balance insulating the public, managing inflation whilst enjoying the fuel tax windfall.

I had a few nights camping out in the moors last week and it got quite chilly at night, I wasn’t sure whether to make a fire using bank notes or switch the diesel heater on…

If those were the only options available I’d go for diesel heater if inside the van and bank notes if outside. It would either be inefficient or hazardous the other way around.

The useful thing about this forum is that you will always find someone prepared to offer advice on almost any issue.

Turns out that modern polymer bank notes are useless for a fire anyway so grit my teeth and turn the heater on.

Of course! Modern money isn’t as good as it used to be. Someone will be along in a minute to tell us how perfect a 10 bob note was for kindling and how a £5 note could keep a campfire burning for an hour!

I never use cash these days anyway, other than for my drugs dealer, gun runner and money laundering associates. I hope that I haven’t over shared.

I have to get cash out for my 86 year old mum, she doesn’t trust some places that ask her to use card. Ha ha. True Irish, don’t trust the establishment.

Have you tried starting a fire with an Apple Wallet, it’s not easy. A Google wallet on the other hand with the right self combusting Samsung phone is like fat wood coated in paraffin wax - just the job.

Like drug dealers, farmers are partial to cash transactions. It won’t be long before they demand payment for a pitch in crypto…

It will be a pun-fight next!

Bet you're feeling sheepish...
I’m gona explain it, messes with my conscience
Bull run is to do with crypto.
Like candles and Driva Dave 123.
Not farm animals, but love the enthusiasm :bananadance2

Fawley refinery is shutting down for 10 weeks soon to carry out planned maintenance. That will make the situation even more interesting.

Not wishing to rub salt in to an open wound…drove from the border to Blairgowrie and back in the Tesla around 340mls, cost me a whopping £6.80 on cheap rate.
You did anyway.

Yes, the shut down has been planned for some time but the timing is unfortunate. The investment in low sulphur diesel refining had the specific aim of reducing refined diesel imports by up to 25% which is particularly resonant given the posturing from the Trump administration. However a 10 week maintenance shut down may come at the worst time and may force the government to try and buy some reserves from the EU which won’t help the current price inflation ☹️

Had planned to do NC500 in April until the Orange-Utang poked his finger at Iran and I figured wiser to postpone .. now at Loch Lomond after 1625 miles going around and fuel cost comes to £480 .. might just make it home with what’s in the tank. Gasp. Even so still worth it for the fun factor.
