Sagging roof

I'm afraid VW will tell this is within limits of normal behavior but you can try. If it is only in very hot weather then probably the behavior described will not happen while it is inside the VW garage and they will tell they are no able to reproduce the error.
You never had this sagging before in less hot weather ?

Yes it has sagged in cooler temperatures but never to the point where it has re tensioned. I always thought this was a myth until this weekend.
I forget to mention the lights in the roof failed on both occasions. I read this has happened to others.
I raised the roof this lunch time. It’s now 7pm and it’s just on its decent now albeit only slightly and the temperature is a bit cooler this evening.

I've had my 6.1 Ocean for 5 years now and just accepted the roof was going to drop in hot weather, sometimes to the point where the lights in the pop top stopped working. That's until this weekend when for the first time ever, the 'auto correct' actually happened and for the last 3 days it's kicked in every 5 hours when there's been no more than perhaps 1-2cm drop so I've not had to manually fully raise the roof as I have in the past. Just very odd how it's now working.

Our 6.1 2022 vans roof sags on one side but the automatic function to raise the roof never happens, not for about 3 years. We have 7 months on the factory warranty (5 years as purchased when new). Will VW look at correcting the automatic function raise function??

I have changed the pump and 2 pistons. It was a bit better, but didn't solve the problem completely.
The problem is that the roof is held up by the hydraulic pressure. Instead there should be a mechanical stop to keep the roof open so the hydraulic pressure can take a breathe.

I couldn’t agree more.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot and liken it to holding up a car with a hydraulic jack and not using stands.
I thought German engineering wa supposed to be the best?
They don't seem to be very bright to me?

Auto correct, as designed, is flawed - it checks at 10hrs and if it detects sufficient droop should correct and continue to check/correct every 5hrs onwards. So good so far, unless of course droop is really bad/quick in which case 10hrs to first check is too long. Or droop is slow in which case auto correct doesn’t detect sufficient droop at 10 hrs and therefore doesn’t kick in, if thats the case it assumes all is good and doesn’t check again at all and the droop just continues to get worse.
It shouldn’t happen at all, and for the majority it doesn’t, but the 20cm droop in 24hrs allowed by VW before it’s deemed an issue means VW won’t fix most under warranty. Despite there being plenty of evidence to suggest a period of dodgy pumps. Right up there with the 600miles per litre of oil use allowed before being deemed excessive, madness. More world class German engineering……but then again German football was meant to be world class too….

I shouldn't be surprised, after all, this is the company behind Diesel Gate

I took my 2021 Ocean into my main stealer. I'd tested the roof, it was dropping almost 10cm in 9 hours on hot days.

I explained all of this to them, had photos, explained that unless they disabled the auto raise, it would drop considerably, but this whole 72 hours is BS, it would have to drop 20cm in 10 hours.

To be honest, dropping 10cm in 9 hours (which it's currently doing) is already utter bollards.

Anyways, the stealer ignored my emails and my German is too naff to explain the details in person.

I've just received an email back with nice photos showing that it dropped 4 cm since they had my Van for 4 days.

The photos were from a nice shaded workshop

I'll write back to thank them for wasting all of our time with a complete sham of a test and that I will only use my pop up when I'm indoors in a cool environment....

AND I'm going to be charged labour!!!

This is what I was afraid of. I will have to travel a fair distance to a dealership and then to be told it is within tolerance is unacceptable. Thanks for your input and I guess I will have to put up with it.

I'm currently gearing up for this battle. Again. The 10 hour check and every 5 hours is just a con. It's diesel gate. How can we define a system which will only work to our advantage...

You drop off the vehicle between 9 and 5 and it drops in the workshop. 10 hours later it re-pumps and no one is at work. Then every 5 hours it fixes the problem. At 72 hours they will assess the droop which means it's got to fall 20cms in 5 hours, assuming they aren't checking it after 2.5.

I need to go through this BS with them one more time and then I'm going to inform them I'm paying for it to be replaced and I will take them to the small claims court.

I think you have enough yourself to start this too. I'd deal with the VW executive office...
