How long would you think it would take to replace a T7 rear seat in an Ocean?

I have rear seat that needs a warranty replacement… the dealer wants the vehiclee for 2 (yes two) days?

I can take the existing one out in about 30 seconds? What am I missing?

Out of interest how did it break?

It’s the way the system works.
Day 1 - VW insists the Dealer examines the seat and determine the fault. Then apply for a warranty replacement and order the seat.
Day 2 - Seat arrives, if in stock, and fitted.

Thats being optomistic

I've usually had
1. dealer examines & orders replacement says it will be here later today
2. 5.30pm its not going to turn up today you may as well take the van & we will let you know
3. 5pm on day 2 parts arrived they phone to say can you get here in the next 10 mins
4. Arrange to fit that Saturday to save messing around with work
5. Turn up Saturday to find part has either been sent back or used on another vehicle.
6. Go back to step 3

The worst ever was the van centre in Kettering who wouldn't order in a replacement 3rd brake light without me doing a 3 hour round trip so they could examine the van to verify the old one had fallen off.

If they have agreed warranty replacement. Tell them to contact you when new seat in Go and pick up and dump the old on off.
Are you sure it is a straight swop. If they want two days it could be they only getting a new seat frame and having to swop out parts? When our t5 seat broke they assessed what was needed, then the wait for parts got them to take the bench seat out left it with them then back when fixed for refitting.

Thanks for replies. Good points, but maybe the bigger picture required..

So far my experience has been..

Phoned - explained issue (folding pull strap on side not working) and agreed a day to go in for techs to look at ..

Day 1. Drive 40 miles for tech to confirm something not right but cant establish if repairable. Book in again to investigate. Drive home (wont let me leave the seat. Must have vehicle)
Day 2 - drive back and leave vehicle for a week.
During this week confirmed that seat replacement required - now on back order with VW with no ETA - collect van and drive home..

Message yesterday that seat is now due in mid June - please book vehicle in for two days to replace seat… (Days 9 and 10 in reality)

So the inspection and investigating has been done and the expectation is a new seat replacement.

this time I am getting a replacement vehicle (that I only need to drive home and back to garage the next day hopefully) but the time it takes going back a fore is a pain.:)

I was wondering if the seat is coded to the vehicle or something ?

One of the pull straps on the side that fold the seat is loose and doesnt operated the mech. The other side is fine. You would think its a bit of fiddling with the mech but they say it needs a new seat?…

It is unfortunately symptomatic of the same poor level of customer experience I have received from the VW Commercial service centre in Bradford.

For me it is a 50 mile round trip. Their lack of planning/communication caused me to have to bring the van back to them for a second visit to get some campaign work done that was scheduled to be done (4 weeks in advance) at the same time as the 1st service. And when I got there for the second visit, they told me they would need to keep the van overnight. Something they failed to mention when I booked in the work and told them I would wait for the work to be done.

The seats have rear and front side pulls. All the rear ones work fine, but the front ones barely. But I think I'll just live with it....

Just to update that the seat has been repaired - not fully replaced - hence two days to do the job. VW agreed to warranty claim and sent a new seat frame… The dealership had to take the seat covers and seat belts etc off the old seat and reinstall on the new frame ! Mech works smoothly now! Same covers and trim..
