Oil change due in 25 days?

My new to me 23 had its last service with oil change on 07/05/2025 with 6959 miles.

Current Mileage - 8900

How often should the oil be changed and how often for full service ?

Does the vehicle predict when the oil needs changing ? Is it set on fixed intervals or monitored with sensors to estimate oil wear ?

Normally set on 1 or 2 Yr service interval from factory BUT there oil quality sensors to determine when the oil should be changed. Info on the dashboard MFD display.

Do yourself and your van a favour and change it every 6k.

I’ve done mine like this (3 times so far) and the oil comes out like water! It’s thin enough when new (0-30W).
I always get exactly 7ltr out of it which demonstrates just how thin it is, leaving zero behind in the engine.

Others will disagree doubtless but it’s so cheap and easy to do (£65/1hr) using genuine filters.

Thanks WelshGas.

How often do you have the oil changed yourself ?

Thank you. It’s the first vehicle I’ve had that’s got DPF fitted and I’ve read some horror stories!

Are you doing short journeys for it to be watered down ?

I did it annually or earlier if oil sensor said so. I Averaged 14,000 miles/year.

No. All of the 20k miles have been done abroad pounding along autobahns etc. no short journeys whatsoever.

It’s simply a case of thin oil. Bear in mind VW spec thin oil as it helps with fuel economy, no other reason.

The service schedules are set with commercial fleet managers in mind.
These vans are our pride and joy so a different approach is valid in my opinion.

If you have the skill set to diy then do so.

The other reason I like to do it more often is to monitor any potential dilution from DPF regeneration, hence why I measure the quantity of what comes out.

I expect 25 days is 12 months since last service. Your van probably set for that. Our van have always be set for 24 months. However the sensor comes on at about. 14 to 15 k which is about a year for us.

Yes, it’ll be 12 months from its last oil change. Based on the info from the MDF display, it seems I’m on a flexi setup for service ?

Annoyingly, my warranty runs out this May and I have a fixed service plan, which is valid until 25.05.2029 and includes:

2x oil service
1x oil & inspection (was used last year)
1x MOT

I’m guessing because the previous owner didn’t use their fixed intervals having a service each year, will result in me not being able to extend the warranty ?

Can't see why you would not be able to extend warranty. After our 1st service the oil change VW did not reset MDF so looked up on line a did myself.

I thought you couldn’t extend the warranty if you still have a fixed service plan in place - I could be wrong

Correct, but once you've used the services and MOT the Service Plan is finished .
