VW INSURANCE

I bought my first policy for my new Ocean in May from LV and they clearly knew it was a campervan and was insured as such (confirmed by chat) - increased personal possessions cover and habitation area cover. No tracker required, but a non-negotiable excess of £1,000. Covered for up to 180 days abroad.

But they still haven't defined whether damage when camping is covered.
eg ;
Awning deployed , roof up, sudden unexpected gust of wind , awning flung up into roof struts and buckles them. ?? Covered
Frying bacon on gas cooker, flames, underside of roof bed catches fire. ?? Covered

These are camping accidents not vehicle accidents.
They confirmed it's covered for "all eventualities".

That's good enough for me on a chat specifically asking if my campervan is covered. These days Insurers have a habit of denying many claims until you take them to court regardless. I'd fancy my chances on this one!

LV has just declined to renew my VW Cali insurance after 7 years, they say they no longer insure motorhomes/campervans!
I will try Comfort intially for a quote
I have been recommended Gallagher by LV but does anyone have experience of Gallagher insurance

Hi Docbob1.
I received a email a few weeks ago about they will not be renewing my insurance, they also suggested Gallagher , to back this up I received a letter in the post yesterday, asking if I would like them to send my details to Gallagher, I must respond by the 16/11/25 .
I have been with LV since taking delivery of our California in 2018 on a multi car policy.
Ours is due on the 25/1/26 so will start enquiring around Boxing Day.
Alan

It's definitely an age thing - they are happy to quote on a new T7 Beach...maybe because the T7 isn't really a campervan (!)

The issue of LV refusing to renew Cali insurance has been raised before.

I was informed by LV earlier this year that they would not be able to insure our 2024 Ocean on renewal and that they would pass my details to Gallaghers.

But I found another thread on the forum where others had reported that the refusal to renew was due to the description LV had on file for the vehicles.

For some reason they had our Cali down as a nondescript "VW Motorhome", rather than the correct insurance description VW CALIFORNIA T30 OCEAN 4MOTIONTDI 204 AUTO

When I called them and explained that the vehicle description was incorrect and confirmed that the vehicle was an unmodified factory build, they updated the vehicle with the above wording which they found in their system.

After doing this they were able to do the renewal without any problems.

It’s more of a Campervan than the T5/6 Beach which had no OEM kitchen pod.

I took out a policy with them for a 2022 Cali Ocean which I am collecting in a couple of weeks. I specifically asked about the van being insured as a camper van and its use as one. After a search of the database they confirmed it as a VW CALIFORNIA T30 OCEAN and that they were happy to cover. My policy came in at £366 all in

I took out what I now consider (having looked at some of the above quotes ) to be expensive cover for the start of our camper-van adventures :)
I have recently been informed that our “legal assistance” part of the policy does NOT apply in France… We got rear ended (we were stationary - waiting to pay at a toll booth!). Just something else for you to to consider :-(

Many thanks for your reply. I will ring LV Monday and update following that conversation
