Hi. looking for recommendations for a garage to look after my 2018 Ocean.
I've had it from new and been to a couple of local main dealers which have resulted in not great experiences.
Martins of Basingstoke were dreadful so we moved to the Breeze in Totton which seemed much better and was worth the hour long drive down.
However, my recent experiences over the last few days have changed my view!!!
The van was booked in for service and MOT but developed some error messages which suggested ABS sensor failure.
I contacted the dealership and they said no problem, they would deal with the sensor issue then continue with the service and MOT.
That is not what happened.
They MOTd it first (despite knowing it would fail which of course it did!!!) then serviced it which threw up some other errors which were repaired under warranty with our all inclusive service plan. There were some very strange advisories about tyres and we were told it needed two new ones., despite nothing being mentioned on the last MOT (done by the same garage) and only 2000 miles being done since. The tyres were on opposite corners of the van and they said they were apparently 'cut to the cord'. They also gave advisories on all 4 tyres for being perished. The van is 8 years old and very low mileage.
I was kept waiting for hours and hours despite there being no chance of the van being ready as it had 'failed' its MOT due to the ABS issue they had been advised about. I was not told.
Any recommendations for independent VW specialists or trusted main dealers appreciated please.
The other thing to mention is that when we questioned why it had its MOT with the the ABS lights on (which they had been told about) the no one from the workshop had the balls to come out and explain it but left it to the service desk guy who really didn't know.
Why would they do that????? Answers on a postcard....

There’s an Indy in Basingstoke I’ve been recommended on the T6Forum. If I manage to dig out the details I will DM you

MOT is down to the Tester based on DOT guidelines....the human elements kicks in. Until year 9, my Van never had a clean MOT, mostly due to tyres, even when tyres were due to be fitted by the garage doing the MOT.

I stopped using Breeze for MOTs. Again constant advisories and a fail on the headlamp aim being too high when the year before they were fine....with Breeze

Yes the waiting at Breeze is common. I've given up with this. Leave it with them for the day. Never wait..... got caught out a few times.

I recently used Brookspeed when a previous Indy make a mess of works he had done on my van. Cant fault their work and they were honest on the ABS sensors (managed to remove the old ones) and the previous work (which I was aware of)

Thank you. Eastleigh is just down the M3 as we are near J7.

Following as I’ve experienced similar issues with Breeze Totton. Despite being covered in the All In Plan I don’t use them for MOT’s. It seems to me that they use it as an opportunity to ‘find’ some chargeable work. There is an independent nearby at Hounsdown - Abtech. They fitted a new door mirror for me and were reasonably priced and did a good job. It’s only a sample of one job and I know the owner so may have got preferable treatment so will hesitate to give them a wholehearted recommendation.

My plan is to use them for MOT’s and general non camper work and use Breeze for servicing and warranty work only.

Brookspead in Eastleigh has been good did my ABS sensor on our T6 and will use on our current van for non warranty work. Think Breeze lost something when Derek retired.

Agree. Derek was really good, as was the Cali specialist they had in Poole.

Might be a bit too far for you but I have been using Autotechnics in Gillingham Dorset for the last 8 years. They are a VAG independent specialist and a authorised Bosch Service Centre. For the service on our Cali they used genuine VW LL oil and filters and much cheaper than Breeze in Poole. Good luck with your search.

Yep 100% agree. I had a great relationship with Derek since 2015.... a good guy and a credit for Breeze. Sad to see he had post Covid complications.

@colintfcolintf About 18 months ago. He retired but comes back as holiday relief.
BTW tyres do deteriorate over time. It isn't just about mileage but also about age. They perish and become unsafe. I wouldn't keep them for more than about 6 years. They are the very important bit between the vehicle and the road!

I had a similar experience with Martins with my T6, but then went to VW Van Centre in Reading (on the A4).
Fantastic service.
In my 7 yrs of ownership - they looked after me well there, so I would recommend them.

when did he leave Breeze (Poole) ?
I only knew him from Southampton. Didn't see him last time, but asked if he was okay and still around. Knew he was working part time as he had complications following a bout of Covid but this was a few years back....possibly the reason behind the part time.
