Just look at this completely pointless open shelf right in the middle of the VW California T6.1 dashboard
Everything you put there rattles like crazy, slides around, and eventually falls out. Classic “why did they do this?” VW moment. So I decided to fix it properly. I designed and 3D-printed a custom solution that actually makes use of this wasted space.
The result:

Now the shelf is actually useful, quiet, and customizable. Big upgrade for daily van life comfort.
Would you use something like this in your California? Let me know if you’d be interested in the files
will post it on makerworld as usual.
How you doing with this place ???

The result:
- A rigid but flexible drawer made from TPU — stiff enough to hold its shape, soft enough to absorb vibrations and kill the annoying rattling sounds.
- A dedicated mounting point on top that lets you securely screw in any accessory you want (phone holder, tablet mount, cup holder, extra storage, GoPro, whatever you fancy).

Now the shelf is actually useful, quiet, and customizable. Big upgrade for daily van life comfort.
