Hi everyone, this post is what I had to do when my vehicle battery was flat.
I managed to unlock the van to load it up, but then the vehicle battery went totally flat and I could do nothing, not even lock the doors. I could use the hidden mechanical key for the front passenger door, but there is no way to lock the drivers door.
I read a post from WelshGas who said the vehicle battery was charged via the hybrid battery charging port. Sadly this would not open, and the pull loop cable was so stiff it not only would not open the flap, it broke the tie restraining it to the vehicle. Any hints on this would be helpful.
I called out VW Assist and the AA chap said that the only way to charge the vehicle battery was via the fuse box. He attached his jump start power bank and everything came back to life. As I was only going on a shortish trip I decided to charge the battery via my trusty Optimate 7 charger, which did the trick.
When I drove it the next day loads of amber warning lights came on including an engine one telling me to drive to the service centre! When I drove home after my visit they had all gone off.
When I got home I noticed the vehicle battery was at 90% and so I could check what impact charging via the hybrid port made. I can confirm that WelshGas was right and it does appear to charge the vehicle battery as well. This makes total sense as this is used very regularly, after every trip for me.
I am a little concerned that this could happen on a camping trip so think a granny charger would be useful to pack, and I have already ordered one of these so I can plug it in:

But if it happens just as I want to drive somewhere and can’t wait for the vehicle battery to charge, I have also ordered one of these:
I still think of jumper power packs a huge things you wheel around due to the weight, so it will be interesting to see if this works. It is so small it looks like the ideal thing to pop in the glove box.

16A 230v Campervan hook up in-line T adaptor
The special connector which is a combined 16A CEE IEC60309 plug and socket simply plugs in between a standard hook up lead, and a caravan/motor home/camper van 16A inlet. Unlike other types or T connectors, its compact size means that it does not result in the hook up connector protruding out...
But if it happens just as I want to drive somewhere and can’t wait for the vehicle battery to charge, I have also ordered one of these:
