Since the last Cali ocean service (22 model), the rear heater next to the bench seat starts up. Always Hi and full blast. I have tried pressing the off button on the rear control and after a few minutes, the heater springs back to life. I have tried using the front dashboard controls using the rear and sync buttons and can turn it down and get it off. The rear control panel says off. Yet, a few minutes later it is back to full blast. Before I contact the dealer, is there anything that I am missing. Thank you for your help.

First I would check that none of the buttons are stuck in then I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes see if that helps. 10mm spanner. Easier than trying to find the fuse.

My t6.1 beach was doing that… buttons were sticking… vw replaced the rear control panel under warranty in January.
I had exactly the same issue - and outcome. Rear heater has been fine since :thumb

Thanks all. I can see that the red and blue buttons are stuck. Annoying as this happened at service. Tried silicon and managed to prize the buttons out but they have no spring left. Looks like it is back to the dealer for a replacement. At least, for now I’ve managed to switch it off.

It was a warranty fix for my Ocean, so maybe book it in before you are out of time. :thumb

Same here Breeze replaced it under warranty without question, obviously its a known fault.

Mine has started to do this. Everytime I start the van, the rear heater is on full speed. I have to push the sync button for it to calm down. I’ve tried playing with the buttons in the back and they don’t seem stuck at all!

So annoying!

Same thing happens to us. Also funnily only noticed it recently, and had a service at the dealer in March.
We had the sticking buttons last year and Vw say that they have replaced the panel. It definatley fixed the blowers being on when starting the van. Looking at the panel now the buttons don't appear to be sticking. I'm questioning whether it was replaced or whether they did a quick fix as our rear heater has now developed a mind of it's own.

Last couple of long trips, after roughly an hour (could be coincidence) it starts. Heater come on full power and heat and won't stop until it's turned off from the dash, either by using the dial or pressing sync. Turning it off doesn't work as it just fires up again shortly afterwards.

It's happened today, again after an hour or so, so I've pulled over to investigate. On the rear panel pressed the auto and off button. Both worked for a split second and then it went back onto high. The only way I could get it to stop via the rear panel was by pressing the down arrow until it went off. This seemed to solve the problem for a few minutes but then it just started again.
This is the first time I've properly investigated the rear panel during the malfunction. I was surprised that the hot air isn't actually coming out of the rear panel vent, but the vent on the rear door pillar. This explains why others who've had the same problem report that unplugging the rear panel doesn't fix the problem.
Gonna take a video next time it happens, and get the van booked into the dealer again.

there is a fix if you are handy with a trim tool and Torx screwdriver. Buttons need a bit if filing down see this thread.
