Urgh, had my Cali 2 months and some numpty decided to rear end me in their Discovery while not paying attention in traffic . Could of been worse of course as it was only low speed, but frustrating none the less.
Their insurance company has been good though as driver admitted total fault and will pay for everything, including a hire car while it's being repaired and it won't affect my insurance.
Going in Friday for an estimate to a mate in the trade to see exactly what's needed.

Take ‘em for every penny they’ve got!

That’s deffo two new chairs. An absolute miracle they completely missed the bumper! Oh the irony.

Unfortunately it will affect your insurance! When you renew you have to divulge you’ve been involved in an accident in the last 5 years and your insurance will be effected whether it’s a none fault claim or not! You are deemed a higher risk! Been there and got the T-shirt!!!

I've yet to open the tailgate, as the lock is knackered to check for internal damage to the chairs and my camping gear/shelf etc. There is some minor damage to the bumper protector, so that's going on the list for sure and the impact managed to pop out one of the rear parking sensors, so get an error now, also on the list...

Yeah I know, I meant as an at fault claim, any reason to rinse you of your money! This is only my second accident (both not at fault) in 35 years of driving and the first (foreign lorry driver side swiped my car on a roundabout, also I was stationary), my policy didn't actually go up the following year, which was unexpected. We'll see, still got 10 months on this policy :thumb

Suggest that if the bumper is damaged, the bodyshop check for any structural damage below the van.

There was no increase on our premium the following year after we were rear ended.

Accident was deemed as non fault as the inertia / shock was captured on the front dash cam g sensor, just had to send the file to the insurers. 3rd car pushed 2nd car into rear of the van whilst we were waiting to turn into out drive.

We still declare the claim each time we renew, as it’s logged on the insurers database.

Yes thanks, I will make sure it gets a proper check over, I dont want to miss anything, especially if they're paying for it.

Been there, done that. Only the 80 year old woman took off before I could get any details! Contrary to other’s comments, my insurance did not go up.

Insurance will not be affected by infrequent non fault accidents

It looks like only the door is damaged which is very lucky. But make sure the people doing the work at the bodyshop don't repair the door with metal filler etc. Make sure that they fit & paint a new door.

Sorry to hear your woes

I would insist on a new OEM tailgate (as noted above possibly internal trim / chairs damaged etc)
Panel beating and filler is not the best repair long term.

OEM rear lock mechanism complete,
note the internal trim holding the chairs may break when removing it, (the clips definitely will) Check rear blind undamaged and all parts full salvageable, otherwise you may need a complete new internal trim.

note the outside plastic trim across the rear of the tailgate may not be available!

OEM rear bumper, parking sensor and after market decor trim to top of bumper.

Edit : there is no tow bar fitted, the rear crash bar will have been removed to fit the tow bar assembly, get it checked along with spare wheel carrier and exhaust.

Thank you. Yes everything will be replaced with factory and done to a high standard, including a new tailgate. We're yet to inspect the internals as the lock needs to be cut to open the tailgate, but it's being done by a VW specialist who knows these very well (he's personally owned several) so he won't miss anything.
The insurance company have been very good to be fair and accepted there will be further damage once opened, they actually came out this morning to assess it and I made sure to mention again the internal chairs, trim etc.
Hoping to get the visible damage estimate back today, then it goes into the shop, hopefully this week for complete assessment.
Fingers crossed it's not too bad and everything is available.
