I am just about to do an oil change but I cannot find, anywhere in the owner's manual how much oil is required.

I think it is 6 litres.

Can ayone confirm this?

Thank you.

The VW Transporter 180 bi-turbo engine (CFCA engine code, 2.0 BiTDI) requires 7 liters of engine oil. It's crucial to use an oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications, such as VW 507 00 for the CFCA engine. After filling, always check the level with the dipstick after the engine has been run to operating temperature and allowed to settle, ensuring it is between the minimum and maximum marks.
Steps for an accurate oil level check:
  1. Warm up the engine: Run the engine for a few minutes to get the oil to operating temperature.
  2. Turn off the engine: Switch off the engine and allow a few minutes for the oil to drain back into the sump.
  3. Check the dipstick: Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, and then pull it out again to check the level.
  4. Adjust if necessary: Add or remove oil as needed to bring the level to the correct position on the dipstick.

Thanks

We have done oil changes before on the van and although we fill in the service book, we don't remember the volume required. My son is a motor mechanic.

I use Castrol, Long Life lll, 5w -30w

My van is not the 2.0 BiTDI version, ie no turbos.

Thanks

Your Avatar info says T5 SE 180. The 180 engine has biturbo, hence the above info.

Many thanks. I never knew it had twin turbos (as opposed to one).

PS. How did your username come about?

Engine oil volumes for T5 model engines.

AI Overview

The VW Transporter T5 engine oil volume varies significantly by engine type, with
1.9 TDI models requiring around 5.8–6.3 liters, some 2.0 TDI engines needing approximately 7 liters, and 2.5 TDI models requiring more, potentially around 7.4 to 8 liters. It is crucial to identify your specific engine code or consult your owner's manual for the precise oil capacity.
Common Volumes by Engine Type

  • 1.9 TDI (AXB, AXC engine codes):Approximately 5.8 liters
  • 1.9 TDI (BRR, BRS engine codes):Approximately 6.3 liters
  • 2.0 TDI (CAAC engine code):Approximately 7 liters
  • 2.0 Petrol:Approximately 7 liters
  • 2.5 TDI:Around 7.4 to 8 liters, depending on the specific version
Important Considerations

  • Identify Your Engine:The most critical step is to determine your specific engine type (e.g., 1.9 TDI, 2.0 TDI, 2.5 TDI) and its associated engine code.
  • Consult the Owner's Manual:Your vehicle's owner's manual is the most reliable source for the exact engine oil capacity and recommended oil grade.
  • Change Interval:You should also find the correct oil change interval for your vehicle in the manual.
  • Dipstick Check:After refilling, use the dipstick to ensure the oil level is within the designated "Min" and "Max" marks.

Thank you.

We arew struggling to get the oil filter off. I assume it is a cartridge filter and not a replacement centre - see attached, which I bought after looking for a VW Transpoorter 2003 - 2013 oil filter.

I need a special tool to get the old one off. Although we have done it before we can't remember what tool we used.

Something like this.

Or check out Halfords or most Auto shops.

Those are two completely different filters and require different tools. I think you’ll find it’s the second one.

Thank you.

We got it off after a lot of struggling and wrecking it.
I have now ordered a new (cartridge style) filter and just to be on the safe side for the future a new tool. See attached.

The paper filter came out of that box.

These work really well, but you need a universal joint at the end of your socket drive because the access is offset.

Yes, we have the tools. The oil filter is in just an awkward place.
