Hi,

I’m looking to get these tyres when I next change them:

Michelin CrossClimate 3 235/55 R17 Y (103) Y XL

However, looking at Costco/Black Circles these tyres don’t appear for our 6.1. Was changing a tyre on our other car at Costco and asked about the van. They said they’d not fit them without clear evidence they’re ok for the van. The manual provides a bunch of info on tyre ratings, but I can’t find a definitive list of approved tyres. I know lots of folks here, use and recommend these tyres, so pretty confident they’d be fine. Does anyone know where there’s documentation showing they’re ok? Or recommend a way forward?

Thanks!

Thanks, it’s not like for like, currently I’ve the standard installed ones. I can see the tyres as available, it’s convincing the fitter that they’re ok for the van, that’s the challenge.

Take your point about all the possibles, but assumed there might be a list of the common ones or the minimum spec.

The sticker inside the door frame lists several sizes. 235x55x17 should be on there as well as your 215x60x17s.

The door sticker does state this size as an option and this is the tyre size/type we went after buying our 6.1 a few months ago.

Just fitted those to my T6 California, seem good. I questioned if there was an suv version more suited, like the cross climate 2 had. Seems the cross climate 3 has one version suitable for suv. So far feel good, I was using the Goodyear vector gen 3 suv, still a good tyre.

Thanks folks, a quick check and, as suggested, obviously posted on the door frame. Ironically, almost always use the sliding door, and hardly ever open the driver door! Duh.

Please let me know how you get on with them… I think these will be my tyre of choice when I have to replace the Bridgestones. Cheers :)

To save starting yet another thread, shortly i will be needing to replace my tyres. I'm going for the cross climates and would like any help/advice/recommendations re. the 2 or 3 version.
Tyre size 255/45 R18 103H
thanks.

After a year on Bridgestone Turanza 6 All Seasons I'm actually pretty impressed by their lack of wear (and lack of punctures!). Good alternative to the Cross Climates in case of any availability issues.

How many miles ? Got rid of turanza 5 because of punctures and wear, looks like they improved ?

Every time I see this I find myself a little annoyed that VW chose to use the American bastardised spalling rather than the King's English spelling of ''tyre''.

3-4k at a guess so not a whole lot in the scheme of things, but very definitely an improvement over the originals. I was very hesitant to accept the 6 all seasons given how dire the original Bridgestone were but we were in France and right at the start of a trip down south so didn't have many options. Glad I couldn't speak decent enough French to argue at the time :D

I was happy with the CrossClimates I had on too, just an unfortunate puncture at a bad time meant needing to find a VW garage on a tight timeline.

Michelin stopped producing the 2s a little over a year ago, replacing them with the 3's. Any 2's will necessarily have a full year less lifetime in them from a rubber aging point of view. That said, they will probably need replacing before the rubber is end-of-life, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I'm on my 2nd set of CC 2's with no regrets.

Would CrossClimate tires be sufficient for driving on Icelandic roads, as a replacement for Michelin Latitude Cross tires?
Not the most challenging F-roads, but the F35 for example.

Not sure about Iceland specifically, but @WelshGas reported that he drove on them to North Cap in early spring several times, encountering snowy and icy conditions, without problem.

Agree but the roads in northern Norway are proper tarmac although covered in snow/ice but in Iceland they are more graded gravel roads.

I have had the cross climate 2 for 3 years now and have no complaints at all, will definitely be looking at cross climate 3 when they need replacing,

Just had my Cali front tyres replaced with CC3, previously had CC2.(255/45R18 103YXL)
Only done 1 trip for central France with them, but they seemed quieter and more assured round corners. Obviously can't report back on wet or cold weather performance, but have a trip planned to Scotland and Ireland next month, so may get different weather then
