Where does the unit get its time stamp from? I thought it just mimicked the time on the dash? Or is it a dab signal? The time keeps resetting to 00.00 everytime I turn ignition on. Dash time and control panel are still normal. Was wandering if it's because I'm in the mountains but never noticed it before

Your not alone, and there is a fix Apparently

Cheers welshgas. As usual, it's a software issue. Looks complex for my poor computer brain. How odd, they all seem to do it at 10 years old?never thought to look on the T6 forum. Lots of knowledge on there though. Think I'll live with it for now.

I had this issue on one of my previousT6's (not a California); it was a 2016 Caravelle Generation Six Special Edition (Candy White over Cherry Red); the issue started October 2024, so closer to 8 years old in terms of the van, but the head unit could have been closer to 10 years.

Anyway, I paid for an update from here...

This solved the issue. Note the update is tied to your VIN so it can only be used on one vehicle.

I haven't had the issue yet on my California (its an MY19 registered in August 2020), but I already updated the MIB2 firmware to the most recent release as a preventive measure.

Thanks retrored. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay that. Along with buying an sd card. To make the clock work. Good to know it can be done if you have a spare few hours, and quids

Yes, for just the clock it does seem a bit much; although depending on what version you are upgrading from (and to), you might get other benefits as well as the clock fix such as...
  • Improved overall stability
  • Improved performance
  • Better app-connect stability
  • Off-Road functionality
  • General bug fixes
I don't remember what firmware version I was on originally (possibly 475), but I upgraded to 480 which is the highest supported release for my MIB2 as far as I know.

On a similar topic of updating the head-unit, I also update the speed camera POI database here...

I get the latest map updates from here...

I get the radio logos from here (this one is free :))...

Our 2016 Golf did this time resetting stupidly until I removed the tick in the DST box in the Time snd Date settings.

Cured it and now just change the time manually at hour change over in Spring and Autumn

Worth a shot

Same year, same issue, same decision

Same for me. 10 years old too. But the head unit is a replacement, so much newer ...

well, i've managed to fix this problem for the price of a new SD card. wasn't easy but got there in the end

Here's how to do it
1. Buy HDSD card, NOT a micro card with an adapter. i bought a 64GB one for 16.99 Sandisk. This needs formatting to Fat 32.
2. on your radio press and hold the menu button to see your installed software string. the last 4 numbers matter. here you see mine at 0351.
3. You now need to pick the software to download from the T6 forum MIB site. so for me it was the MST2 EU VW PQ P0369T. see pic 4. takes a while, file is about 3gb long. for this reason get at least a 16GB SD card. 4GB is too small as it needs unzipping.
4. unzip the files. takes a while.
5. you should end up with a list of files once opened looking like this. pic 6.
6.Copy all these files into the root directory of SD card. don't just drag n drop the original folder. open it and copy the files.
7. now insert into left SD card slot. press hold menu and you should now get the option to update. click start. the screen may restart a few times.
8. mine took around 20 minutes,so leave ignition on.
9. once done, restart the unit. hopefully you will now see the correct time.
link below that yo will find the software in.
