Lower bed squeak

The lower bed squeaks in the night. Also, when in the process of pushing the bed back the 3 or 4 inches. It’s due to the two ringed areas rubbing on each other.



My instinct is to reach for a can of silicone/ptfe spray, but I wondered what you thought?
(My only other thought was that sticking some sort of anti-squeak material to the area might end in a mess given the nature of the motion used when making the bed.)

Light spray of silicone spray to both surfaces.

Use vinyl and rubber care spray (autoglym ) or something similar , smells nice and will protect as well

Updating with progress:
As soon as confirmation of my own thoughts came through I sprayed with silicone. Two light sprays has improved, but not eliminated the annoying squeak. Im pondering whether to go for gold, remove the silicone and try the autoglym vinyl and rubber care (that I already have in the garage).

Well, spurred on by the mild mannered janitor I lived my most adventurous life this morning.

I wiped off the silicone with some isopropyl, applied, polished, reapplied and polished with some of the vinyl and rubber care. Results were comparable to the silicone, but still no gold medal.

So, I then wiped that off with isopropyl and sprayed with ptfe spray. No improvement.

So, I then wiped that off with isopropyl and spread petroleum jelly to both surfaces. No improvement. (I was glad because that could have got very messy.)

So, I then wiped that off with isopropyl and just added a few self-adhesive felt pads. Perfect!


Yep! As simple as that. I hadn’t wanted to stick anything on here foreseeing a sticky ‘rucky’ mess, but I’ve given it a good go backwards and forwards and it seems to work fine. I might replace them in due course with the loop side of ‘hook and loop’ tape.

Come on people, I’m waiting here, facing the crowd, hands cupped to my ears, waiting for the adulation.
