The lower bed squeaks in the night. Also, when in the process of pushing the bed back the 3 or 4 inches. It’s due to the two ringed areas rubbing on each other.

My instinct is to reach for a can of silicone/ptfe spray, but I wondered what you thought?
(My only other thought was that sticking some sort of anti-squeak material to the area might end in a mess given the nature of the motion used when making the bed.)

Light spray of silicone spray to both surfaces.

Updating with progress:
As soon as confirmation of my own thoughts came through I sprayed with silicone. Two light sprays has improved, but not eliminated the annoying squeak. Im pondering whether to go for gold, remove the silicone and try the autoglym vinyl and rubber care (that I already have in the garage).

DO IT, live dangerously :upsidedown

Well, spurred on by the mild mannered janitor I lived my most adventurous life this morning.

I wiped off the silicone with some isopropyl, applied, polished, reapplied and polished with some of the vinyl and rubber care. Results were comparable to the silicone, but still no gold medal.

So, I then wiped that off with isopropyl and sprayed with ptfe spray. No improvement.

So, I then wiped that off with isopropyl and spread petroleum jelly to both surfaces. No improvement. (I was glad because that could have got very messy.)

So, I then wiped that off with isopropyl and just added a few self-adhesive felt pads. Perfect!

Yep! As simple as that. I hadn’t wanted to stick anything on here foreseeing a sticky ‘rucky’ mess, but I’ve given it a good go backwards and forwards and it seems to work fine. I might replace them in due course with the loop side of ‘hook and loop’ tape.

Come on people, I’m waiting here, facing the crowd, hands cupped to my ears, waiting for the adulation.

Gold!

Use a strip of loom tape instead?
No. You misunderstand. This is a moment to prostrate yourself in awe at my engineering expertise, not attempt improvement. You would be amazed at just how much of a squeak these four little darling felt pads are preventing. I will accept reserved applause if you happen to be British.
;):D

number one super guy !

Correct!
Well, who am I to argue ;)
Seriously though, there’s a long, long way to go until my campervan kung fu reaches your lofty levels (or 99% of the regulars on here). I won’t be giving up the day job anytime soon :D.

I am in awe at your level of sophisticated engineering. What further exciting projects can we look forward to?

That is also the correct reaction. Thank you.

Next? Well, unfortunately, I think that I might have reached my zenith with the application of 4 felt stickers (4 though! Count them!).

But, just you wait. I can’t be the only Ocean owner to have had this problem. Eventually, someone will ask the question on here and I’ll be poised, thread bookmarked, ready to assist. I will have my day again. I’ll revel in the glory once more. You never know, it’s the sort of legendary contribution that gets put into the resource section for all to marvel at on a regular basis. You see it’s all about giving back, doing something positive, supporting the community. It’s my legacy.

Hot today isn’t it!

:D

Rather delicate question, was the squeak only when the bed seeing a lot of “action”?

Would explain why I never had this problem.

Movement on the bed, yes, but mostly when in the process of making the bed. So, you’ve pulled the strap, lowered the back, then, as you push the newly created bed back that four inches or so to the final position, the two plastic surfaces ringed in the picture rubbed against each other creating an amazing resonating ‘squeak’. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe that those four felt pads would prevent it, but they do. In fact, I think that just one or two are doing the work. Of course, it’s typical of the very best expert technicians to build in such redundancy to their engineering solutions. ;)

If only VW worked to that specification.

I’m trying to un-think what it is you’re doing to make the bed squeak so much! :Nailbiting
