Bought our 2015 T5.1 Cali in July last year. The tap didn't work initially, but after plenty of Googling, I found the info on what to try to get the water flowing. After much sucking on the tap (yuck!) and manual winding of the pump impeller, it eventually spurted into life... mostly.
The pump worked intermittently without intervention, but on other occasions while camping, I had to empty the wardrobe, dig the pump out, and manually spin the impeller again until it burst into life. I noticed that when it failed to start, there was no noise from the pump, but it did get quite hot.
Over the winter, I’ve used the heater/fan but never filled the water tank or tried the pump. I have, on occasion, used the sink as a bit of a vanity unit. I went to use it today and realised the tap switch was up very slightly. I pushed it back down—it was only a couple of millimetres—but I heard that "click" of the microswitch which immediately worried me. Had the tap been activated this whole time?
Sure enough, upon opening the water tank, I was greeted with a strong electrical burning smell. I lifted the pump and it’s toast (see pictures). I’d accidentally lifted the lever just enough to operate the pump, but because the impeller was seized, there was no tell-tale whirring noise to let me know it was on. Obviously, I need a new pump now (it was on my list of things to do this year anyway!).
The scorching up the cable looks quite bad. Could anything else have been damaged by that heat? Everything else in the van seems to work and the trip switches haven't activated.
Has anyone else here replaced their pump recently? If so, where did you source yours from in the UK? I need to get it fixed in time for the Califonia meet up next month!!
Thanks in advance.
