Heat pump and Solar at home anyone?

Lol..... I have one of those. Its not intelligent to allow annual tariff change....... so you're plus 1120kWh over my Feb 2012 install.

Quick calculation for me equates to 3680kWh per year generation

Yes, and if I divide my total by 14 years gives 3649kWh, so we’re near as dammit identical.
Sorry about my previous confusion. You first posted that chart in October 2024 so of course it was 2 years.
Senior moment, will come to you too one day.

This is the total solar generation from our panels (18) since 4th October last year

I suppose you all eat avocado imported from Mexico on heavy oil burning ships to make yourselves feel even better and talk down to people that can't afford all this sh1t

To be fair, I am not convinced that £3500 is a lot of money these days for a significant home improvement that can hardy be compared to excrement.
As you ask, not avocado but bananas. ;)

C’mon @flying banana …… do you talk down to people who can’t afford a van like yours? We all make choices with our hard earned cash. As for burning oil, what do you think you’re doing then when driving around willy nilly on camping trips that are unnecessary? I would say that making my own solar power is good for me AND the planet. Nothing to do with Avocados………

I would like to discuss solar panels with you but I never get into a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Drop in the Ocean these days.
I’ve just had a quote for scaffolding to cover the roof.
£18k….
It’s not even that big. Building costs are eye-watering at present.

I need a new roof…:sad
Full, tent cover scaffold. If ever there was a job that feels like you paying something for nothing. It must be the roof.
This is a no enjoyment upgrade, unlike a bathroom or kitchen or the billiards room. Just kidding.

Seems like an opportunity for solar once the roof is complete and before the pipework comes down.
There’s a lot of choice and I really need to do my homework on the subject.

Weather permitting we are getting solar starting tomorrow, 18 panels and 18kW Sigenegy battery with a gateway so no more power cuts. About £15,000, so it’s a major investment and we spent £1,700 just getting planning permission. But the heat pump went on for heating for the first time yesterday and we are looking to keep the bills down in the future. Money in the bank is just stripped away due to inflation and low interest rates so it seems a better bet to invest for the future.

Difference is I don't virtue signal about saving the planet, when clearly expensive heat pumps will not. And neither will solar in a country that's dark for 70% of the time meaning gas backup is needed.your saving no planet at all. As for the unarmed man wit comment , I normally say, i like that I'll use that one, but not this time.

Wow. My install was quite simple on a south facing garage roof so no scaffold costs. Zip up tower only required.View attachment 140648
Nice job, you’ve made me want to measure my garage. It looks nice too, we live in a bungalow and I sometimes think solar spoils the look of a roof, but this might work for me, especially as it would be facing my neighbours ha

You are completely missing the point. My heat pump and solar will play their part for the environment. And as for costs….. I now have ZERO energy costs per year, in fact Octopus pay me! Tell me what’s wrong with that! No oil or gas being used in this house. The world is warming up, we all need to consider that.

The world has always warmed up and cooled down. Always will do. Heard of solar maximum? Noticed the northern lights alot lately. Natural phenomenon heating the upper atmosphere. Ask Elon musk about his starlink Sat's being dragged back to earth due to spaceweather. I'm glad your bills are now low. But saving the planet you are not. Where will all those panels go when they're dead. ?

I’m speechless  you will be telling me next that the world is flat, Elvis lives on the moon and that smoking has nothing to do with lung cancer.

Best sit back and enjoy the results of your forward planning and watch the nay-sayers bury their heads in the sand.
Me? I like to think that my ASHP is not only heating my house economically but is actually doing so by sucking heat out of the atmosphere and producing zero emissions (albeit at point of use).
It’s a no-brainer IMO.

Interesting thread, we are on a journey turning a poorly insulated house into a low cost comfortable house in the harsh west coast. Once the wood pellet boiler dies, solar and a heat pump look good options.
As for the non believers , well many will not see the worst effects. Certainly in my 13yrs working mainly in facilitating arctic sea ice research, the change has been huge and rapid. We can all play a part, fly less, drive less and consume less.

I was told Elvis went home...I also assumed it was further than the moon!

I can't wait till it is revealed Vaping causes Lung Cancer

I’ll never get it — how is inhaling foreign chemicals into your lungs considered a good idea? The fact that vaping is so popular is just crazy.

I guess it's a case of damage-mitigation or at least limitation as opposed to those using traditional cigarettes.

The main issue is the 'kids' taking up vaping even though they'd never dream of smoking.

No under 25s should be vaping.
They need to change the law and increase the minimum age, every year over the next 50 years.

An increased minimum age will make no difference, I regularly see parents buying multi packs from seaside market stalls and splitting them between their young children. Off they go, down the prom’, kids vaping and adults smoking weed.
