Have you needed to replace/repair your wind out awning fabric because of the 'weld'?

Ours split while in France a couple of weeks ago. 38 degrees and the heat must have softened the glue as the whole seam came apart. It was a bit of an effort to wind it all back in especially with the tension in the arms. Eventually managed to tape the awning closed but now not sure on best next steps. Was going to try and get new fabric but having read some replies here, may try VW first. Mines a 2016 Beach so out of warranty.

It really is unlikely VW will do anything if it’s that far out of warranty but you can of coarse try.
If you are not successful with VW I can recommend Stormsure adhesive. Obviously you would need to take the awning apart but I think with care a repair is feasible.

Awning seams separated on ours and a friends 2016 Beach within hours of each at a Into the Wild festival this weekend. Temperate couldn’t have been more than 25°C.
Both (un)conveniently outside of extended warranty.
I wonder if there’s possibility of group action against VW on what is obviously a known issue?

I successfully glued ours. It was really wrinkly after spending a few weeks badly rolled up with tape etc. I had to iron out the wrinkles but glue worked fine in the end. Used the recommended Stormsure glue and it seems to hold up. First reral test will be in Italy next year, hopefully this glue holds better than the original.

If you Are going to try and repair it this winter then the Stormsure adhesive is the one use. It’s very flexible and super strong. Whatever you do don’t use superglue.

I've ordered some from Amazon and will certainly give it a go. New fabric seems to be out of stock at the places I've looked.

If you take your time and mark it all out before you start there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get a first class job. The only other option is to take it somewhere who specialises in that type of work. But when I asked around there wasn’t anyone who had worked on the California two piece split awning.

Fabric was £59.82 from Attwools online. It's a 680gsm PVC coated Polyester mesh fabric, ideal fr this application and it's available in loads of colour options.
The Keder strip was £9, you need 2x sizes, 5mm for the van/winder side and I used 8mm for the wind out edge.

Just a followup for anyone reading in the future. VW Liverpool quoted £700 + VAT to replace.
After a conversation with VWCV, we have settled on 50% contribution so £420 to replace the entire unit.

Incredibly lucky to get it replaced at 50% after 7 years. We managed to get two thirds discount and that was 3 and a half years old. We paid £250 but worth every penny to have a one piece material awning.

Sorry to hear that. We just replaced the fabric which wasn't too tricky - easier with three people for final re-assembly, holding the legs. There look to be a more than one option for supply - now available without a weld, who'd have thought that would be the winning strategy.

I will have to bite the bullet and get a one piece replacement but the problem seems to be sourcing it. I even called the omnistor factory in Belgium to see if they could supply a replacement on my way home but they only sell to dealers. The search continues.

The forum shop sells replacement fabric, although it seems to be a lighter weight. I'm yet to road test / camp test it.

Our late 2016 Ocean wind out awning has just split along the fabric weld. Having just provisionally been told by the service team at our local VW that they only replace the entire awning unit rather than just the fabric, I would be very grateful to hear how many of you have/had a wind out awning - with a seam - and whether or not you have needed to replace it? This would really help get some ammunition for my subsequent discussion with them.

2014, still holding, but the seam was lifting here and there so I have recently added a little glue to try and stop it lifting more, because i thought lifting might lead to splitting later.

The awning material shouldn’t be any different from that used for domestic sun shades, so it is probably worth speaking to an installer when you get home. I would imagine they could either sell it off the roll or have a supplier.

Exactly the same for us. The stormsure fix has been working in sweden but not in Italys warm weather. Luckily I was near when it started splitting. Now I am going to buy a new one instead.

I managed to get one from the club shop before they sold out again. Rose awnings had one in stock but they wanted silly money for it so I decided to wait. Luckily it arrived in stock the day we got home. Now for the fitting …

Ours split twice while still under warranty so the whole awning was replaced each time. In the end we decided to replace it with a Fiamma which I think is a much better unit and has always had one piece fabric. I could never understand the logic of having it in two pieces.
