Brake fluid change

Local VW dealer is charging me £126 to change the break fluid!
Not long since it had its first service, so a pain to bring in again so soon!

Well you know the answer there - don't use a main dealer. A VW indy will do it cheaper, and Quickfit or Halfords cheaper still.

Why is it needing a brake fluid change now if only recently had first service? How old is it?

If you're not too worried about silly warranty stuff you could always buy a fluid moisture tester and get it changed when it actually needs it, not every two years or whatevs.

Thanks for response. It’s two years old.
When I booked online it said the price was £126 but got email from dealer this morning saying it would be £89 in total so that is more in keeping other charges noted above at least.

Parkway Leicester wanted to charge me £105.96 for the brake fluid change !
It's not 2 years old yet so it'll wait until the next service.

It’s amazing isn’t it how, when vehicles are a few years old , brake fluid becomes non hygroscopic!!

I have to say, for around 100 quid, or 100 Mars Bars, to replace fluid every 2 - 3 years, for the most important part of any vehicle, the brakes, seems the least of all hardships on here.

I understand the sentiment but that's exactly what the less scrupulous elements of the motor industry rely on to 'encourage' us to spend our money on with them. A few years ago the recommended first fluid change for a T6 was three years, now it's mysteriously dropped to two years.

Brake fluid needs changing when it needs changing. That might be every year in very harsh vehicle use, or much longer in other conditions. The motor trade could adopt a test-and-change-when-necessary approach, but pigs might also fly.
