6.1 California Ocean living area carpet

Hi,

I would have tagged this on the end of my folding carpet post but I see that's been closed for comment for some reason.

Anyway I said I'd got prices for a custom carpet. Ended up buying one from Unique Car Mats it fits the 6.1 with the seat in the normal position, 1050 x 1080 mm from their "exclusive" range for £50.00 incl postage.

Not folding sadly but I think it looks good.

Campervan bits kindy refunded me for the folding one I returned.

That looks good and it definitely makes such an improvement to the 'floor feel'. We went for the Brandrup version, pirely for keeping it down when sliding the bench and so glad we did.

Completely understandable if you use the lower bed but we pretty much always use the upper bed, normally have too much gear in the back to find a space for

Hi, please forgive this very naive question: why does one want to put a carpet ? As we all know, well at least from my experience, camping is a messy thing. I cannot imagine camping in muddy campsites or sites near sandy beaches and, even if you wipe you shoes on a mat, one is bound to drag some of the stuff inside. When we camp the 50 cm2 of floor gets swept and mopped every morning and it takes all of 5 minutes. Am I missing something?

Hi, please forgive this very naive question: why does one want to put a carpet ? As we all know, well at least from my experience, camping is a messy thing. I cannot imagine camping in muddy campsites or sites near sandy beaches and, even if you wipe you shoes on a mat, one is bound to drag some of the stuff inside. When we camp the 50 cm2 of floor gets swept and mopped every morning and it takes all of 5 minutes. Am I missing something?

We just take our shoes off to get in the van, easy on campsites if you wear something like crocs, we use a piece of old rubber VW carpet outside and have a small bit of carpet to put wet shoes or boots just inside the door behind the drivers seat.

Works for us in summer and winter.

We are on our second Cali and stay in it for two months in Europe each summer, and it gets regularly used at home.

We bought a cheap 1m x 1m carpet online for about £25. However yours is worth the extra. Do you remember where you got the bin from that neatly fits behind the passenger seat? Thanks

I’m a recent convert to a ‘naked’ floor, although I do carpet the small step with marvel mats to help dry wet shoes. I can’t believe the amount of time and money I spent messing about with carpet now.

30 years ago I took a campervan around Australia and remember our Lino floor being strictly for bare feet only, but actually that was sandals slip on and off, very much easier than shoes on and off, which I just couldn’t be bothered with in Europe.

Worth adding that a smooth Lino floor is easy to keep clean, but that grey textured ‘little squares’ flooring that some might have - and I had in my old 5.1 - is very difficult to keep clean.

Of course, we’re all different, travel differently and have different needs, but that’s my current view.

I can't bought that for our first 5.1 but this one is pretty much identical.

We use b&q carpet tiles cut either side if the rails so the seat glides over it and you can open the drawer (T6.1). It cleans very easily with a stiff brush and, in my opinion, is easier than a lino floor to maintain and keep clean. It also preserves the original floor below for resale (not that that is going to happen in the near future!)
And as @WelshGas says, warmer underfoot.
