Hi
I’m looking to take delivery of a 2025 ocean hybrid.
I understand that the van uses camping gas cylinders . I am going to buy a Cadac bbq
Do most owners use the same gas as the van or something different?
I gather that camping gas is more expensive but used on the continent .
Any advice on how to go forward before I buy canisters / bottles would be appreciated.

We have a 6.1 Ocean. Taking the van bottle out for use on the bbq is a PITA, so we’ve always carried another bottle. Some use the disposable canisters which is fine for occasional use, but we tend to use our CADAC most evenings and even in the mornings sometimes. Having 2 interchangeable bottles means that you’ll never run out of gas.

We use a cadac safari with a 4” disposable gas bottle. They are more readily available than the 907 bottle across Europe. So if we do run low we have options. It takes up very little room.

That said it you went for two 907s you would be unlucky ever to run out. Just takes a little more space really.

We have a CADAC 2 Cook 2 burner hob with a 907 tank and a 907 tank in the van for single hob.
Our exterior one ran out when we were in France so swapped interior one to the CADAC. Got a replacement at third attempt in an Intermarche Supermarket €32.

We have a smaller 904 bottle for the cadac. Easier to lug around and pack. Seems to last the season but we also use a vango induction hob. We are away about 12 weeks pa for guidance.
I think you can also buy a regulator with a 5m hose if you wanted to use the van bottle without removing it but we haven't investigated this thoroughly.

If cost doesn't bother you I would suggest the HP Cadac with the small disposable threaded gas cartridges, convenient, light and go anywhere, NO compromise.

Me? well I am tight fisted and hate to part with any more money than iI have to! So in our case we use the LP Cadac from the 907 in the van or a spare that we sometimes carry. I have acquired the kit to refill the 907 at home (not rocket science but does require care and consideration for safety) which brings the price per kg of butane down from £18/kg to £3.50/kg and I never worry about the exorbitant price of 907 refills :D. For use at home in the garden I have a refillable Propane cylinder and a separate gas hose with propane regulator attached. The Cadac we have has QR fittings so easy to change over and use either type of gas.

The average cost of gas in the HP cartridges is around £18/kg too

A side note for you: Both the LP and HP Cadac cookers can be converted to use either the HP cartridge or LP 907, you just need an adapter to fit accordingly

If it helps you the best price I could find anywhere was Newquay Camping Shop
I happen to live locally but their internet price is the same including delivery (and they will give you another 5% discount if you sign up to their newsletter :thumb

I changed the regulator on my BBQ to run from the 907 gas bottles. I always carried a spare bottle in case the van bottle ran out, so rather than carry more different bottles around, I use the spare on the BBQ, and always got a bit left over if the van runs out. Would be very unlucky for both to run out at the same time.

Can I ask if you are filling the 907 from a Safefill bottle? I've wondered about that but not sure whether turning it upside down is a good idea because of the overfill valve??

I have a 15kg Calor Gas Butane cylinder which I decant from. :thumb

I should add of course that DIY refilling is fraught with risk and danger and that whilst I am prepared to do this, I can not possibly recommend or endorse the procedure ;)

I was a professional hot air balloon pilot for 10 years and would sometimes get through hundreds of kg per week filling flight cylinders so I am comfortable in what I do personally. :)

Do you have a sqeeky voice

By the way, disposable bottles vary widely in price. If you shop around you can get those "go gas" 445g cartridges for about £6.99 - so assuming you're paying £40 for a 907 refill that's costing you £14.50 a litre - go gas disposable is £15.70 a litre so not far off really

Take a look at the Cobb BBQ. It’s a great bit of kit.

AI reckons you would sound like Johnny Cash if you allow excessive leakage while filling your Camping Gaz cylinders.

"Yes, breathing a mix of butane and air will make your voice sound deeper, but you should never do it because it is extremely dangerous and can kill you instantly. [1]
Because butane is much heavier and denser than normal air, it slows down the speed of sound in your vocal tract, amplifying lower frequencies and creating a deep, booming voice effect. However, inhaling butane—even mixed with air—carries severe, unpredictable medical risks. [1, 2, 3, 4]"

Now i know where johnny cash got the voice from………

Me too :mute
Used for Campingaz 907 and the 4.5Kg Calor butane bottle we have at home.

I also periodically check the weight of the 907 in the Cali so I know we won't run out on any trips away.
And if we take the Cadac, I usually carry an extra full 907 with us, just in case we use more gas than expected.

We have a SE which also uses the very expensive 907 gas bottle for the gas hob. We also have a Cadac Safari Chef 30 HP which uses the screw-in dumpy gas cylinders. We like the HP as it’s more flexible, we often take the Cadac to the beach etc. Not sure there is much difference in the cost of a 907 refill (locally £50) and a 4x pack of cartridges about £22. By my reconning you need about 6 canisters to equal the capacity of a 907 bottle so a bit cheaper to run. A 907 is quoted at 2.7 kilos of gas and a canister holds 440 grams.
