A @sidepod comment on my T shirt thread reminded me of the great Beach Vs Ocean arguments we used to have here. Has that surfaced again recently, or have we all accepted a van without a kitchen isn't really a campervan?.

The point of the thread is to see if there's a list of topics that have caused the most disagreement between members.

I'll start with the 180hp engine and what sometimes leads to it's terminal oil consumption problems. @WelshGas and I won't ever get back the hours spent on both sides of that one.

The other one I remember was the merits of the Marco polo Vs the Cali, and whether driving the MP made you look like you were returning from a swinger's party, rather than a mountaineering trip in a Cali.

Let's not reopen the debates, let's just take a trip down memory lane to remember the topics that have divided us

Had two oceans, loved them. (On my own and with wife)
3 grandsons forces Beach purchase.
Can use a vango roar and Dometic cf35 fridge inside so it’s almost like a campervan.

Moved on, TSI Hybrid. Best of both worlds, although did prove my point 140,000 miles and 0mls oil consumption between services that not all 180's were affected, and now the 204 seems to be having problems.

I got a lot of pushback for saying 'that if your Cali sits on the drive waiting for high days and holidays, then you should get a bigger van' (ie the Cali makes more sense if used as a 2nd car).

Well, I suppose there’s been some minor verbal skirmishes over the years, but so far no-one has said “ Open the bucking strait, you crazy dastards “ so on the whole fairly civilised really.

That prompted me to think that there isn't as much politics creeping into the forum. Even the 3 Cocks section looks quieter.

There used to be some very clever posts which appeared to be from a Cali love perspective, but underneath were trying to make a political point / demonstrate moral superiority.

There has always been strong debate when a new model is introduced (5.1 to 6, 6 to 6.1 etc). I remember the 6.1 canoe paddle front bumper was hated at first. Like most things, we get used to them and they grow on us. I'm willing to admit it's happening with the T7/Multivan Cali (so long as it has the right wheels).

I know what you mean and assure you I am not an undercover political agent posing as a California owner !
I’m from a coal mining family so I suppose I was born Labour but to my embarrassment I actually voted for Boris Johnson when Corbyn stood against him as I thought Corbyn would be a disaster. Plus which I had some Severn Trent shares and Labour were going to nationalise the Water industry, so a bit of self interest.
As far as Trump goes, I think he is a narcissist, a charlatan and a bully, but hey, other opinions are valid.
Thankfully I still have the Severn Trent shares. People will still be drinking water when this kerfuffle is sorted out.
