I may run over the 10,000 miles service interval this year by up to 1000 miles.

My options are to have the final included Service and MOT several months early which is a pain because it will then be when we are normally away travelling.

VW support via chat said there is leeway but wouldn't tell me what it is. VW customer care replied with a long winded email and totally avoided the question.

Anyone know if there is any mileage grace?

Have you discussed this with your local service workshop? They may be able to help.

I wouldn’t go past 8k miles between services if you care about engine longevity. It’s cheap enough.
That's an interesting thought. By steering away from the flexible 20k between services I thought I'd nailed it. Which raises some further questions.

What do I have serviced at 8k? Oil and filter? There doesn't seem to be an accessible service schedule...

I guess I'll speak to a dealer.... Lol

What does the Service Info say on the MFD?

Ah ok. It says next oil service in 5k and next service in 20k.

So it's safe to presume oil service means just that. Oil and filter and nothing else... Guess I need to talk to a dealer and figure out if they'd separate the oil change aka 3rd service from the MOT... Or just pay for an additional oil change.

Here’s two 2L diesel engines with egrs and dpfs
Guess which one had 20k mile oil changes and which one was done at 6k mile

Well my 2014 180 BiTurbo California covered 147,000 miles in 10 yrs with annual oil changes and annual milage of between 20,000 and 14,000 miles except for the Pandemic year . Zero mls oil usage between oil changes and it is still going strong with its new owner.
All your photos show is an engine that has done minimal miles/year, top photo, and an engine that has been used as designed, bottom photo.

Not really sure what exactly the OP is worrying about, falling out with VW or actually just getting the oil changed?
If it’s the latter (which is all that matters) just go to any half decent garage and get it done. Better still , do it yourself.

It's all a learning curve....

I have an included service and MOT - which now is maybe only an oil and filter change - but at time of service will be 1k over the mileage.

I'm merely trying to find out if that's a warranty stopper or not.

Every other vehicle I've had says service must be carried out within x weeks plus or minus or y mileage plus or minus.

Seems it's just as difficult to find this out here as it is from VW.

I think the key to maintaining warranty, is make a booking for service with VW dealership, the lead time is their problem, not yours, bear in mind these vehicles are designed for heavy usage and fleet owners with multiple vehicles, running over a service schedule by a few thousand miles should not make a significant difference, after all the vehicles have sensors to check oil quality and advise if issues arise. Coupled with long long service periods upto 24months as set by VW (long service) I don't think you've got a concern yet.
If the dealer can't provide the service when required that's an issue for VW

You can get an mot done one moth before it’s due. It will give you 13 months MOT.

  • How it Works:If your MOT expires on 15 May, you can get it tested as early as 16 April to keep the 15 May expiry date for next year
