Emergency Reversing Braking.

A few times when reversing my 6.1 Ocean, I have heard a very loud noise and had a very abrupt stop !

It happens when on uneven ground and I thought that I must have hit something and done some real damage!. But I could never find any obstacle behind.

It happened again this week and decided to do a bit of research.

Apparently it's a feature - emergency rear braking at low speed. Because the clearance is so low at the back, any slight embankment seems to trigger it. Very useful apart from the false alerts.

I've noticed this too on my T7 compared to my Karoq - the lower position of the sensors makes it a lot more sensitive

Yep, I get the same in mine. Our drive is on a slope and has a slight lip, so either pulling on forward or backward at a bit of pace can trigger it. I've not had it happen when manouvering slowly do I've just learned to come on and off the drive carefully.

First happened to me exiting a car park in Scotland where an incline and flooded cattle grid must have confused the sensor and we got a full-on emergency stop,which genuinely seemed like we'd hit something - scared the hell out of us.

I just press where red circled every time I reverse up a slope - problem solved:

My drive is also on a slope, particularly exiting, which sets the front sensors off.
Occasionally when reversing on the drive, the emergency braking has activated.
My current drive is only just long enough for the Big Blue Bus and I have to reverse just beyond the red line of the parking camera to fit on.
