Road Trip - France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany 2025

Thanks for the tips. Not sure of our route through Germany yet, don’t know much about Germany.
Maybe up through Bavaria and the Romantic Road?
Ha, yes, Zuiderpark some Saturday.
Unfortunately, you may have to put up with this crap until then.

I defer to @CaliforniaCylus greater knowledge. My touring in Germany was a few days in 1980s on a motorbike and 4 nights earlier this year. Loved it both times though.

Day 20
Weer, Near Innsbruck, Austria
Spent the day having a quick drive round the dolomites, followed by the hop into Austria via the Brenner Pass, which was very busy with trucks.
Austria feels very civilised.
We are staying at ‘Aplen Camping Mark’ which is exactly like a CAMC club site in the UK…which is nice, but also kinda depressing :(

Camping Hell is quite close to you https://www.hell-tirol.at/
Great family run site and facilities with amazing washrooms, pools. Well worth checking out.

Camping Resort Zugspitze is a nice site with amazing views of Zugspitze mountain peaks and on the outskirts of quaint old ski town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, you could then head to Fussen and the famous Schloss Neuschwanstein.

Day 22
Innsbruck
Day in Innsbruck. We like a ‘city’ break.
Parking tricky, mainly underground parking garages. Didn’t reckon much to the old town tbh, full of overpriced cafes.
Liked the rest of Innsbruck, trams, bikes, clean, modern, good shops, felt affluent. The mountain backdrop is pretty cool. Bet it’s a nice place to live.
Tonight we are staying at ‘Hafen Parking’, Innsbruck’s Stellplatz, dirty car park under a motorway. Noisy. Handy. Busy. Lots of great whites.

Innsbruck’s ‘Golden Roof’ the city’s most famous landmark, completed in 1500AD by Emperor Maximilian 1st and if you look very closely you can see Tilly taking a sh!t

There’s a painting somewhere in Innsbruck with a woman’s foot that appears to follow you as you walk by.

True story.

People who wander around campsites in bath robes/towels/dryrobes need flogging, publicly.
Bulls Wax…
Robe to the showers, whip off, wipe and back to the van.
No messing, easy peasy.

Great pics Will

Day 23
Mount Wank (No Really)
The day Started with Mrs WillWander doing the Innsbruck ParkRun. Very friendly bunch.

Then a quick hop over to Germany. Walk round Garmisch-Partenkirchen, venue of the 1936 Winter Olympics and now a German ski town. We liked it, nice place to have a wander, relaxed, nice shops. Had a Kebab.

Staying the night at Mount Wank, right next to the Wankbahn. At a StellPlatz ‘Camp Am Wank’ which does the job nicely. It’s nice, I’m glad we came here.

I’m not going to say it but someone will !

Get yourself to the Wankbahn early, rise to the top before anyone else…

Day 24
Landsberg am Lech
Headed off to see the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Castle (Neuschwanstein Castle) which also featured in The Great Escape, didn’t go in because of the dogs, looked a tourist trap anyway. Had a stroll round Fussen, nice.
Finished off in Landsberg am Lech, which we really liked, prettier than Fussen but still a working town so less touristy. Staying at the Stellplazt which is sh!t but convenient.

Had my first experience on the Autobahn, bit nerve wracking when you’re doing 130kph and people are overtaking so fast it makes the van rock like your standing still. Some must be doing 150mph+

Neuschwanstein Inside is fantastic. Old prince Ludwig was a bit bonkers!
