Leaking Sliding Window

Afternoon all, sorry for jumping onto an old thread. Can anyone advise if the bottom plastic runner/trim, that the window slides along, is actually fixed to either the glass or is it fixed to part of the metalwork of the door ? TIA.

From what I remember it is all bonded to the glass.

Make sure that you don’t seal the 2 drains that are in the seal. Only a couple of mm wide and easy to miss, they are part of the drain from the runners. I’ve posted some diagrams in the technical guide section that might help.

After many leaks on my 2022 Ocean (leaked since new) I have taped up the window with black electrical tape. It 100% stops the leaks.

This is so crazy, my only working solution so far is to tape it as well. During summer I remove the tape since it dries out between rain, but during winter its horrible.
I can’t believe we don’t have working solution for everyone yet.

It's only been happening for twenty three years so don't expect a solution soon!

Indeed. I had my entire side window swapped out and it still leaked. During summer it was OK, but during the first frost and thaw, it leaked again so I've just taped it up. At least the cupboard is dry now...;-)

If you mean that there is wetness passing the seal in rain or when washing the vehicle but the drains are successfully diverting that totally to the outside of the van then with a thorough cleaning of the vertical seal and horizontal runners should solve your problem. Caveat being that there is often a small seepage from outside to inside.
It may of course be that the catch assembly is not ensuring that the sliding portion is completely closing.
If however the drains are allowing water to come inti the inside of the vehicle the only fix that a dealer can offer is to change the complete window.

I noticed a leak on mine a while back and also the sliding window section when closed had a bit of play and didn't seem to be compressing the rubber seal. Traced it back to the plastic ends of the locking rods (2 long metal rods in the picture above) being broken. These pins locate in the holes of the frame. The end of mine was missing so it was a loose fit in the frame.
You can get either from VW (£?) or aftermarket (£8ish) a replacement latch kit with all of the above. In my case all I used was the long metal rods. Above is for a T5, I think the T6 has a different looking latch but maybe the internals are the same.
Tip when fitting is to have the side door closed, you have to compress the spring and locate it on a retaining clip (the 2 small sections top right of the picture). One of these pinged out while I was fitting and ended up under a hedge. The replacements in the kit didnt fit as well as the VW originals. (and im not that impressed with the VW ones either).

Quick edit: the cover pieces are removed starting at the end furthest away from the latch. i.e by the frame.

My T6 window aslo leaked I purchased a closing kit from Ebay with the butterfly mechanism, 20min later fixed, exactly the same issue, youtube video explains the method. "Fixing vw leaking windows"

90% of them do. However I've found a fix for this problem.

I've sold the Transporter and bought a MAN TGE (Crafter in disguise) and the OEM sliding windows in that don't leak ------- yet.

Note the window has plastic fixed pins in the top and bottom, they wear out causing the window to not pull up tight to the seal.

You can replace the pins , (metal are best ) but it requires the sliding window pane to be removed (quite easy to do)

Did they fix the leaky side window for the the 6.1?

I've searched for recent complaints of this but not turned any up - is it fixed? My T5 has the felt seal around the window and leaked, undetected until it had ruined the floor, interior trim and rusted the seat bases! I just sealed the gap with silicone in disgust and took the handle off...
