I’m curious as to the usefulness of a dash cam. If you have a second please?

Bought a dashcam after an accident where it would have been very useful. Procrastinated installing it until we had another accident that was clearly insurance fraud and where the dashcam would have been worth its weight in gold. Sadly, it was still sitting in the glove box…

Finally installed it but never had an accident ever again after that of course.

Possibly the best thing you’ve done then.

I installed front and rear dashcams in case the van ever suffers damage from a 3rd party.

The footage hasn't been required to date but my thinking is that it may help establishing fault in the event of any disputed collision, etc.

Dashcam was a godsend when I had a vehicle recovered from France.
The insurance company initially rejected my claim against the recovery company for the extensive damage to the roof however once they watched the video of the van being put on the top deck of a car transporter and seeing the van get smashed into trees it was hard for them to reject the claim. They actually made a cash settlement higher than the final cost to repair.
So another lesson I learned was ensuring you have the camera record after the ignition is turned off, I think the default on my dashcam was 30 minutes after the ignition has been turned off.
