Our California was ordered new in 2021. Will and Sarah became favoured viewing during the year long wait. Often over dinner my wife and I watched their YouTube channel.
There are many great sources of California information with this forum being paramount, however outside of this forum Will and Sarah’s was our most fruitful source, and new owners might do worse than work through their YouTube channel.
My enthusiasm to buying a California was not at first shared fully, and Sarah’s measured responses helped my wife prepare and accommodate me.
They moved on from Californias (as did their channel which changed from ‘California Time’ to ‘Campervan Time’ describes), but all that thought which they recorded on YouTube is left to help newer owners (and established owners with new issues); and their latest YouTubes continue to enjoyably inform.
3 years later we are fairly ‘fluent’ in California. But Will and Sarah, like a favourite schoolteacher, are fixed in the memory: so that when we saw a baby-blue Westfalia Sven Hedin, with a UK plate at a prominent pitch, on our daily walk in Cannero Riviera this September I remarked “that’s the same as Will and Sarah’s”.
We were not on the campsite; we had an apartment nearby. As septuagenarians, we prefer to rent self-catering accommodation, though our California is in full use on our trips including taking a kip, meals, handwashing etc.
Returning from Cannero Riviera in October (in our case via the memorable Simplon Pass) we logged last week on to Campervan Time wondering what Will and Sarah had been up to: only to find it was them, we would love to have met in the flesh, but just missed this by taking the boat to Luino only an hour later, see:
