Wifi Hotspot

Collected our Ocean PHEV yesterday. So far all great, everything working as expected. Noticed that it usefully includes the functionality to make the van into a Wifi hotspot using the Europe wide LTE network (via data contract with Cubic Telecom). I didn’t recall this in the spec when I ordered and it seems to be a new feature on MY2026 vans. Thought I’d mention it in case anyone is interested.

Don't know about the new Oceans, but I've got a MY22 Ocean and that has WiFi hotspot functionality, I think it's been standard for a while as it's all part of the connection to VW for emergencies, software updates etc.

I got some free data thrown in as part of my deal and worked quite well but after that, the contracts with Cubic are expensive compared to similar elsewhere. The convenience might suit some people.

Many modern vehicles have wifi-hotspot functionality built in; HOWEVER the data is usually per GB and VERY expensive, so unless you can replace the sim card with your own...

I’m looking at the starlink roam. A bit of money for the kit but you can pause your subscription when not in use

I use the Starlink mini in the van and it is really impressive although you can no longer pause for no charge.
