Who tows a Caravan with their California?

We tow a Swift 1500kg single axle with my 204 T6.1 and it's no bother at all. Just been to Cornwall 6 hr drive each way. Set van up on campsite then use cali for days out, picnics etc.

Doesn't seem to be as effected passing trucks as various car and caravans I have towed

We tow a Swift Basecamp 2 (currently lake Constance Germany) with our Ocean 199 4Motion DSG, apart from the very narrow gap between bumper and hitch, no problems at all (make sure gaiter on caravan A-frame is fully extended when unhitching and you'll be fine)

@homerorchid @secret lemonade drinker I'm thinking of getting a Basecamp 2 to add living space in colder weather as the kids get bigger. I'm wondering about a couple of things.

1. Can you open the tailgate with the Basecamp attached?
2. Do you need to unhitch the BC if you just want a few hours kip on an Aire? Or can you stop where you are, get in the caravan and have a nap?
Cheers

For those that have a Cali and a Caravan: can you describe how you use it? Is it just for longer trips and you still holiday quite a lot with just the Cali, or do you take the caravan on most holidays and enjoy the Cali for day trips away from the campsite?
How about France? Obviously Aires are out which we are currently enjoying in our LWB Ducato van.
Any other tips for someone contemplating coming back to a Cali and a Caravan after being unfaithful in a MH?

We tow a 4 metre caravan mostly on longer holidays. When we need the extra space and leaving the caravan in the campsite and moving around in the camper is ideal. MH are normally far too big if trying to go shopping. When home need a bigger drive or garage. Lots of places we go have height restriction for MH. With our Cali camper we can visit towns snd go sightseeing whatever you want.
For short trips or when we just want to get to a specific place the Cali camper on its own is good enough for us.

Live in Midlands.
Keep caravan in storage in Devon.
Just upgraded to 7m.
New to towing.
Short tows over summer months.
Use caravan over 5 summer months.
Use camper as overspill when family join.
Use camper for day van and short stays.
Probably the best combination as we see it!

Use as per Dell above!

We've always had a caravan but have a beach on order... Going to try the opposite and just use the van for a family of 4 in Europe for 2 weeks next summer... My wife is concerned about the lack of space!

We use our caravan for longer trips and then we head off for the odd night or two in the Cali.

We are into year 3 of the combo and we are gradually doing longer trips with just the Cali. (Five weeks in North West Spain last year).

It's tight in the Cali and if there were kids then the idea of a small Basecamp or equivalent sounds perfect.

With our caravan we can still open the tailgate with caravan attached except we hang bikes from the tailgate so we have to unload them first!!!

You can look at what we have done here

Brilliant for towing, only downside is we can't open the rear door when it's attached. Just plan ahead.
