Just a thought, how much does charging your leisure batteries whilst driving effect the MPG

They way I understand how the smart alternator works, is that it will only charge the staring battery at first, when that is fully charged it then starts charging the leisure batteries

Obversly it effect MPG, the alternator is putting an extra load on the engine but by how much?

Part of the bluemotion functionality (is that still on the t6?) was to reduce the amount of time the alternator was in use and thus improve your fuel ecomony by using regenerative braking and engine braking to put the charge in whenever possible.

I find when my batteries are good and full, the MPG goes up and the stop start works more often too. Another good reason to do that 24h on hookup once a month imho.

Do not know if this only happens to me but my fuel consumption is significantly better when my wife drives!

I managed 18.6 Km/l on a 181 Km drive yesterday.. My wife is currently driving at 13.6 Km/l over a similar distance.

Must be a new Tsi owner ;)

Reviving an old thread, I was rather proud of myself on my latest holiday trip:

2015 Cali T5.1 180bhp/DSG/4Motion normally average about 35mpg apart from when the better half is driving …. 42mpg on a long run !

2016 Beach 150 DSG. I couldn’t believe my eyes so had to take a photo 51mpg!

Recently had Cambelt, water pump, front oil seal & oil pump belt done and the mpg is atrocious since. Does it all need to ‘bed in’ or am I just being paranoid that something is amiss? Usually 42/44 on commute of 35m now 37/39 if I’m lucky!

Pump timing off?

Just so I understand it all better: what gallons are we talking about here ? American (3,785 liter) or British (4,546 liter) ?

2007 se 2.5tdi 174ps Tiptronic. 225 mile trip fully laden 38.7mpg, I’ll take that.

I do get bored, thats my excuse!.... last month we were driving to Norfolk and I thought let's see what mpg I can get. I managed just over 48mpg :) (with a little help slipstreaming behind a lorry). Spoeed was around 60 ish.

Wow! You’re sure that lorry wasn’t towing you?

Mixed driving motorway and urban, I’m getting around 38mpg

Just completed a 3500km roundtrip to northern spain at an average of 8,3l/100km with a 2021 California Beach 150PS 4-motion, with 5 people and luggage on board.
75% of those km was while towing a small 500kg trailer. This meant we were reduced to max 90 to 100km/h on highways, which definitely helped to reduce consumption. Pretty happy with this consumption.
