Hello,

I have a vw t6.1 ocean, seems the back is a bit heavy even unloaded. So I look into the THQ and find this :

VW Transporter T5/T6 – Eibach – Rear Lift Balancing Springs

However after installing it it's still not high enough.

I want to lift the cali by 1 to 2 inch (best), anyone has any experience on the lift conversion done of T6.1/T6 ocean? I guess they weight quite similarly.

At the moment I don't want spend too much money on the VB suspension, I want to use spring or spacer to solve the problem. Any model of the spring / spacer to recommand?

Thanks

Are you trying to increase the the wheel - wheel arch gap on the rear?

You do realise it is an Optical illusion.

The wheel arch is cut higher on the front compared to the rear. If you equalise the tyre- wheel arch gap then the vehicle will be nose down.

Thanks for your reply, I see your point, I think with this Rear Lift Balancing Springs the car is quite level from I can see. Front suspension is all stock never touched.

From this current sitting level if I still want to lift the car by 1-2 inch what should I do is the best way? (avoid air for now), should I just buy a 40mm lift spacer kit to put to both front and rear? or should I change to a more hard spring to both front and rear.

As far as I know I don't know if this is correct, with the current front and rear soft spring + a spacer (lets say 40mm) I should get about 40mm height lift but still running very soft because the spring doesn't change. And if I just swap to both front and rear with hard spring without spacer, then I will probabbly get same 40mm lift but very bumpy ride is that correct?

Because I often go to woods and doing a lot of offroading I want to have as much ground clear as possible. Without changing the stock shock absorb.

Thanks

Below is the level my car sits right now, front is the same as back

If you want to do it properly

Approved by VW.

Firstly have a search around on the T6 forum for suspension advice. There’s not a comprehensive thread on there to link to though.

For a raised camper I’d personally not bother with the standard struts/dampers and go for a high quality fixed platform set up from Bilstein or Koni. At this height exact heights aren’t so important so the expense of coilovers isn’t as necessary. Eibach springs have a good reputation for a 35mm lift.

Talk to an expert like CRS Suspension in Cannock for some advice. That’s where I’m going next.

Thanks for your advice, I already have the eibach rear balancing spring so from spring point of view I think it's fine, it's a lot more tension than the stock rear spring.

I think at this stage I want to spend as little as possible for just a lifted look, then at some point I will go direct to VB air suspension. I have searched it seems like 40mm spacer will not do too much harm to the drive shaft. I don't do offroad everyday, mostly the car is parking / motor way. But need some raised height for occasion offroad

Another vote for Steve @CRS Performance.
What he doesn’t know about Transporter suspension set ups isn’t worth knowing.
Ok mines lowered on H&R coil overs with his custom camper springs but he can advise on any setup that will work
Thanks, I will contact them as see how much, I guess it will be 2000+, I probably save that for the VB

TBH most set ups that actually work are not cheap, those that are cheap have a habit of some compromise either with refinement or longevity.

I looked at/considered air-ride when I was looking but didn’t want the cost or complexity personally.

Also WRT VB air, have a read round on the T6 forum from memory it can have reliability issues from what I remember.

Thanks for the advice, I will do a bit more research.

There’s quite a lot of talk about VB air not being that great on the t6 forum. I suggest you have a look before committing to that.

Ultimately the spring rate of air goes the wrong way as you air up. So the tendency is to get bouncy as you get higher. I’ve run many vehicles on air over the years.

Correct !
Most people go for air to lower rather than raise RH, & as you say VB have been less than helpful with warranty & failures etc.

Currently most people seem to be using SoLow air kits including Chris @Dav-tec & the VanCave were b4 they closed.

The triple bellow air springs that Solow have developed could go some way to making things better when raised up.

I’m currently 115mm lowered on Solow LOW, soon to be raised up (but not lifted).
