Hi All, I know I’m slightly off topic of California’s but I’m looking to trade my beach in for Dethleffs Globetrail CW crafter. I want a bed that’s set up already and a kitchen that I can stand. I’ve done 4 years in the beach and it’s been amazing I just want to move on to slightly bigger, more flexible and gives me a real touring opportunity with one of the kids or the misses, not both :)

Thoughts, do this got the t-shirt, don’t do it, whatever it is it would help. This forum was great when look at Ocean vs Beach and it helped me make the right choice.

Thanks you,

Craig

I don't think you are upgrading from a beach but rather changing direction for the time being. You may come back one day. We all have the 'should we go bigger' moments and we live with our choices.
Good luck in your search and we may see you back here in the future.

I’m still getting a VW… Cricky I can only ask.

Have a look at an Adria Twin. I am very happy with mine.

Why did you go for this rather than anything else, what was your thinking. There is a Adria twin available for the same money with a pop top but no air conditioning for a little less money, they do look nice.

I’ve just purchased a Carthago Malibu 640, (quite a step up in size from a Cali), as I wanted a longitudinal bed, and a reasonable size shower. Looked at the Dethleffs ( Deathstar as my partner named it ) but on a Fiat chassis, also part of the Hymer group with very good build quality and equipment levels.

Thank you, I want a kitchen and a bed I don’t have to keep on putting down and putting back up. As I’m now spending more and more weekends in the van, I’ve done 43k in 3.5 years with all of them being camping trips, I love my beach as a car / weekend van, I just want something more that gives me more convenience. I like the Cali versions from the Crafter but the cost with extra’s tops well over 100k. With a lot of optional extras and a brand new crafter I can get it down to 90K with pop up top for the kids as well. I don’t think I can compare the Beach to these, it’s just I have changed and my requirements have. The beach has given me the love for camping on the move, living a simpler life and enjoying being outside so much more. I now want to step it up and also have something for when I retire at 60(ish :)).

Although I still have not approached it to the missed yet so all this could be complete fantasy.

Thanks,

Craig

I share similar thoughts. I’m thinking of a Ducato based van 5.4m with poptop and a large garage .
Adria twin sport, Knaus boxlife/boxvan
I’m not jumping this year yet though.

When I have spoken to some of the suppliers the wait list was around 6 months for the VW Crafters like Eriba Car, which does not seem back my beach was 18 months, it was the post Covid rush to get out doors…
