Hi all,

My first time posting, as I'm about to become a real member of the club. This seems like a really great club and I'm looking forward to being active!!

My local VW van dealership has had a 2020, two tone white and bayleaf green 6.1 ocean 4motion come in to them today. They very kindly called me, as I've been waiting. Quite a lot of miles on it though - 99,116. Will come with 12 months VW used-approved warranty. Has a good service history and recently replaced cambelt, water pump and oil and oil filter change. In extremely good condition inside and out as far as I can tell. Just over £46k.

They haven't had chance to photograph or advertise it yet. Should I snap it up, subject to an acceptable multi-check?

All and any thoughts very much welcome!

Just had a look on Autotrader and that doesn’t seem too bad. I suppose it depends on condition.

The mileage wouldn’t put me off if service history is good. Maybe be prepared for replacing springs and dampers in the future if they are original.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

Thanks, Grunpyrs. It was only the mileage that I worried about but the service history is as it should be, so I thought it shouldn't be too problematic. They do typically do about 250,000 miles, don't they?

I mean, it shouldn't be a huge issue, should it?

If be comfortable. Just haggle as hard as possible as this won’t fly off the shelf for them (or you further down the line) if it’s even remotely market price.

Thanks for the advice - I'll do that! Maybe I can get a few thousand off for when the suspension goes!!

At that age and mileage it would be eligible for the 2 year vow all in plan. If you could get 2 years warranty from the garage that would be great. By the time the 1 year warranty is up you wouldn’t be eligible due to mileage - has to be under 100k

Wow, that's interesting. So, if it begins before the 100k it just keeps going until the end of the 2 years, even if you do, say, another 20k during that time? If so, that sounds like a brilliant idea. Thank you!!

Yes as long as the van is between 3 and 6 years old and under £100k when taken out. You can’t take it out if there is another service plan or warranty in place though.

Could you just cancel an existing one though and replace it?

I really don’t know. If you can talk them into giving you 2 years it would be good. They do occasionally offer it during their “sales” promotions.

I think how many owners is more important than mileage, worth finding out if it’s an ex hire van. Some people can be put off by that due to the number of people driving/sleeping in van.

Just one former private owner, not an ex hire. Hopefully that will help!

I'll have a crack!

Call me old fashioned but that seems a very high price! There are better priced/ lower mileage vans out there for similar or less (unless you really really want a 4mo). As for the warranty you can cancel it and take out a new one which is what I will be doing on mine when it gets to 6 years old this summer if I keep it.

I should add that if you cancel a policy you will NOT receive a refund unless you pay monthly however deductions will be made for any service and Mot costs used.

Now that is useful information! How do you cancel your existing one and take out a new one?
