Hi All.
Help please over the weekend while using our California, and on the last few occasions I have noticed that the control knob appears not to be engaging on the spline and seems to spin around, I thought we may be stuck not being able to put the roof back down. But did manage to get it to work.
Having had a look earlier today the control knob is loose .
My question is does the control knob pull off being on a spline or does the centre peel away exposing a screw that will tighten it up .
Or do I have a different problem completely. I seem to remember one of the forum member posted a company that sorts out repairs on these control panels.
Alan.

If you fancy some DIY then you can buy a replacement Control Knob. The internal section of the knob has worn so it won’t engage properly with the splines on the switch.
There is information on how to remove the Control Panel unit and replace the knob in the Resources section for VIP members.

I did it a little while back. Really easy.

As others have said the VW knob can start to slip and eventually fail to rotate, this is the most common issue. If you strip the pack, then the plastic knob can be removed , face panel replaced and the rotary encoder can then be operated carefully with a screwdriver in the slot. Using the screwdriver will give a good indication if the issue is purely the knob slipping or that the encoder has an issue. The encoder can be changed by the repair company above, but it is a much less common issue.

There are lots of aftermarket knobs / kits /3d printed parts. I ended up using the vw replacement, although expensive I found it an overall better answer having tried cheaper alternatives and 3d printed parts, but it is personal preference.

Hi All.

Thank you all for all the information, since putting post on last night , came across all types on you tube also on the club shop, I have ordered a replacement knob , my son has all the necessary equipment to replace.
As I have said previously on this forum, a wealth of knowledge of which we would all agree is invaluable.
Thank you all

Hi All.
Update on the control panel knob, replacement arrived today, I chose the one that matches the control panel colour for the extra couple of quid well worth it, from watching the video from campervan bits, and the information give by forum members, all works as it should, old one did have broken bits in it.
I would like to say Thank you to all that posted information regarding the problem and how to fix, And a big Thank You to the club shop for dispatching the replacement knob so Quickly and the installation process on there videos.
One happy person with a cheap fix
