As per title, looking to make the lower bed more comfortable, I have tried a panda topper on the fold out bed and still find if far too hard.

Has anyone removed the foldout bed and used a Vango lux 12cm self inflating mattress? does it cope with the uneven base caused by the chairs or do i need to retain the foldout p[art and simply put the vango on top instead of the panda topper?

If there are better options as to how to make the lower bed more comfortable are welcome

Sea2summit self inflator over the seats - I find that very comfortable.

I have the 12cm vango mattress (the one without the built in inflater). I've set it up and lay on it without the normal fold out bed and it felt comfy, but I haven't tried a full night yet. Where the chairs dip in, putting a cushion underneath will probably even it out.

I haven't tried it yet, but I was going to see if I removed the thin topper in the poptop, whether the fully deflated vango would allow the top to close. I sleep in the poptop most of the time but want the option to sleep downstairs if the weather is really bad. If this works it would give loads of extra packing space in the boot. I know the electric poptop is quite sensitive - I also have a 5cm topper and it wouldn't close with that in place.

If you are looking to do something similar, the lux version of the vango with built in inflater and battery is probably not the way to go as it would not fit. I got a separate rechargeable inflater/ deflater from outwell - a bit more fiddly than having it all built in, but a bit cheaper and I use it for other stuff. Vango rock and roll king in the poptop and quest airlux or other make of the same size down stairs, use a Vango tempest pump for effortless deflating and leave the Vango in the poptop when down.
As I have said in the other post the Vango is a tight fit downstairs and opening the cupboards is a challenge. Chuck out the original bed board and replace with boards of the same thickness (12mm) but 180cms long.
Works a treat, takes up lots less room and loads of space at the foot of the bed, see pics in the said post.

Thanks for the link, you have done a great job, will look into doing the same and storing the original fold out mattress should we ever sell.
