Hi all,
I know there are a million tailgate leak threads already, but just contributing some info in case it's not already mentioned somewhere (it no doubt is, but I didn't spot it easily). I noticed a quiet sloshing sound when closing our tailgate recently, clearly there was water inside it somewhere. I still can't tell where it's coming from since there is no obvious visible water anywhere in the boot or around the tailgate itself, and I've hopefully/thankfully not had any other problems with mould or damp areas. It could be the tailgate light as the main suspect. I do have a solar solutions panel, but the cable entry all appears water tight - so basically, nothing obvious where it's coming in. Anyway, that's for me to figure out next.
The bit I wanted to share was draining the water from the tailgate. There's a large bung by the canvas chair enclosure. I tried removing that, stuffing some microfibre cloth in and taking it for a shaky drive. End result, mildly damp cloth but still water sloshing - not very effective. I then noticed the four smaller rubber elements on the boot lid. I tried prising them and immediately started getting drips of water from them. Popped them all out, closed the boot and had about half a litre of water pour out - mainly from the two edge holes. Took it for another drive to shake things about and the tailgate appears to be empty of water now.
Has anyone else who has done similar replaced these bungs or just left them out? Not quite sure of their purpose or whether it's inadvisable to leave them open to air.
