Hi all,

Brand new member was hoping to order a new T7 but the dealer told me the Hybrid is unavailable in Ireland due to issues with Revenue that makes it impossible to register. I’m just wondering if anyone else is aware of this and can shine any light on what the problem is? I want to order a beach so I can combine this as a daily driver and occasional camper so a diesel doesn’t really make sense. The dealer said it won’t be sorted this year so I’m unlikely to order until the new year . However myself and the better half have agreed that if this continues past Jan we’ll just go ahead with a diesel.

Cheers

That’s no good is it.
Can you not order one from Northern Ireland ?
If not, then come and get one from the UK ?
Liverpools not far and they sell the beach in the Petrol Hybrid.
No idea what I’m talking about, I guess you wouldn’t be able to tax it or import it into Dublin ?
Then you’d not get insurance ?
Any friends in the UK who could do this for you ?
Have you spoke with Breeze in Poole or Liverpool dealer ?

Best thing to do here is to ask the dealer what the issue is because they must know (ask by email so nothing gets lost in translation). If they’re not answering, email a few other VW dealership to ask why the hybrid engine isn’t available in Ireland for the California even though it is in the UK.

You can also email VW customer service directly and ask (email both VW.Commercial-Sales@vwgi.ie And vwcustomer.service@vwgi.ie - I never know why one is the correct one so I always email both. They answer within 2-3 days).

Importing from the UK is probably not wise if the issue is one of registration with the Revenue (e.g. VW can’t provide some required certification). Chances are you’ll have the same issue (and it’ll be expensive - having to pay Irish VAT at 23% and Irish VRT - thousands of euros more).

Yeah thanks both UK import would be insane cost due to Irish VRT plus customs VAT and NOx levy. However I contacted Mark Noble he’s a Car reviewer based in Ireland and he was very helpful. He spoke to VW and apparently the issue is expected to be resolved by September so I’m delighted with that. No idea why VW don’t just make this information more public. You can see Nobbys (Mark Noble) review of the latest T7 here
