T6 Timing Belt

They still have time interval in the UK?

In my booklet it says only: 210 000 km (+/- 130000mi?). No time schedule.
Mine is already spinning around for 10 years and 140 000 km. I am not changing it sooner than 210000 km. It will take me about another 6 years.
Fine and that is your choice. But 16 yrs with the same timing belt? I’m not a mechanic but isn’t that asking for trouble?

We'll see between today and in 6 years.
Don't forget that new timing belts are glass fibre reinforced.
If VW knew that there would be a problem in time, they would give a time schedule for the timing belt.
It only has a mileage schedule, so why and when should I change it? What would be the right time? 4 years? 8 years? Not up till now. Maybe in 2 years from now, after 12 years?
I'll let you guys know if the timing belt decided to end it's lifespan prematurely.

Reviving an old thread as I had my timing belt replaced today (2019 150hp dsg) with 30k on the clock. My mechanic initially said it didn’t need doing based on the recommended interval. I had been agonising over it so just decided to get it done so I don’t have to think/worry every time I drive it! Turns out the belt was cracked and perished according to the mechanic, so I feel a bit better about having decided to get it done :|

Just to add - I only got the van a few months ago and in the last year it had only done a couple of k miles, so I don’t know if this could be because it had been sat for long periods of no use or if this wear is normal

To reply to my own comments, I changed the timing belt at 160000km, at 11 years.
No visible cracks in the timing belt, no leaking water pump.

Matching blue!!

Interesting! I’m picking up the van tomorrow so will have a look at the old belt if he still has it. I do wonder how much the storage and climate conditions would have on the lifespan. But it’s not something I know anything about!
