Hi, I am aware that there have been several postings regarding Ad Blue. So, my apologies if it has been covered previously although I had the impression those AdBlue postings were a bit dated. I do have an Ocean T6.1 , 2023 model.

Today, after a bit of absence of the Ad Blue range information on my system, the system informed me that the range is 14000 Km and that I could top up a minimum of 7.75 liters and a maximum of 12.25 Liters. This after having put in 5 liters not too long ago nor too many km's ago, I would think that I was pretty much near empty at the time, although no warning showed yet.

Both the range and maximum top up seems questionable to me. Any thoughts or advice?

FYI, I do have an OBD11 , just in case it can help me in this case.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I think the question really comes down to the following: What is the capacity of ADBlue tank, I am operating on 12 liters, but the info given to me by the system would imply the capacity is nearer 20 liters?

That would explain the numbers if that is the case.

I believe the later T6.1s have a 22L adblue tank. Apparently mentioned in later brochure. What does your Handbook say?

I have to dig for that one and brush up on my German;) i thougt it would be an easy online query, which it is not the case.

We have a 2022 6.1 Cali and the fill capacity is 22 litres. This provides a range of 18,500 miles or 30,000 km. I’ve seen online that the 6.1 panel vans have a capacity of 13 litres. I’ve not run the Adblue lower than about 50% so I don’t know about a warning, but other EU6 diesel cars I’ve run have had a warning.

I think we had a warning and popped 20 Litres into the tank. Had a few thousand Kms left if I remember.

Think it also said how many litres were required...

The minimum amount is I think so that the van is able to calibrate correctly once refilled, I think it is quite tempremental and prone to issues from reading online if the refill volumes aren't adhered to and the correct refill process not followed.

Your range and volumes sound correct for a 22l tank. My my23 van came with around a 2/3rds full adblue tank from the factory which I think is standard and approx 14 litres, good for about 12k miles/20k km, there was a regular warning once it got relatively low, from around 2 or 3 k miles ramge. I filled it up with 20 litres once I was fairly sure that I was below 2 litres remaining (the maximim refill level is a giveaway for this) as I didn't want any leftover adblue sat around unused, once filled up then I had around 18k+ miles range again.

I just refilled today, I got a warning whilst in France last week and by the time I got home I had apparently 700miles left, it was asking for a minimum of 12 litres and max of 22 litres, I put 20 litres in and now it says 12000 miles range and can still get another 8 litres in! The VW Garage told me that its best not to fill California's Transporters or Crafters as the gauge doesn't like it and they have had to replace whole tanks in the past. Their tip was that the gauge is electronic and so leaving the ignition on when filling means it doesn't get confused, I followed their advice and hey presto no issues.View attachment Adblue.jpg

There’s a gauge? I checked it a while ago and it was a big number so I forgot about it.

It's going to take me about 3 years before I need to fill up

Thx for confirming this , i indeed gound it in the brochure too. All is clear now.

Your post reminds me I’ve got half a 20 litre container of Adblue sitting in the garage, and probably enough space in the van’s tank to chuck it in. :thumb

I have recently topped up with 10lts for the first time. The display wanted 2.75 to 4.5 gals. I didn’t know about waiting 30secs with ignition on after refill before starting engine so it didn’t register the top up even after some time. I then realised I hadn’t put the minimum in (12.5lts) so that’s why it didn’t register. I topped up again with another 10lts but followed procedure, it didn’t update straight away but did while driving the 20lts in total ie 4.4gals. The consumable amounts are in be app under capacities. Its 22lts or 4.84gals.

If you change gallons to litres in units in settings it helpfully tells you in litres.
