That is interesting that you put two stroke oil in and it ran quite.I have read a few people do this on other forums .Could help lubricate better as the modern diesel fuel has reduced additives.Which did help lubricate better .A while ago (2008) I had a manual 5 cyl 174 Kombi T5. It was a lovely thing and an absolute torque monster. It had been to the remappers and was around 250ps and felt unstoppable. I did keep on top of the servicing and I think that paid off. I recall that it was 1 gramme under the most expensive UK CO2 band and adding a factory fit diesel heater would have changed that and been very expensive.
It is still rolling after a friend bought it and it's on about 300k miles now. Just a few small rust issues on the back tailgate (they all do that, sir...)
One thing, for better or worse I never knew and not seen it mentioned on here though I'm new to this forum, is I dosed the diesel with a little 2 stroke oil and it did run a lot quieter.
