Hi all fellow geeks,
How do you mount your mini?... I just bought one and am keen on understanding the best way to mount when pitched up, and the roof is up - Im assuming it needs to be orientated accurately and have an unobstructed view to the sky ?

Thanks!

You can generally get away with quite poor alignment and significant obstructions and still have at least some kind of signal.

I just spent a long weekend under large trees with the Startlink simply sitting on the dashboard and had adequate signal.

I also have a suction mount for mounting up against the windscreen, which I didn’t take at the weekend, but which generally gives better reception, especially if the van is pointing in the right direction.

Previously, I have found that with the Starlink flat on the ground nearby to the van will also generally work quite well.

And finally, when internet speed is all important, I bought a piece of plastic pipe from a DIY shop and use that as a mast – about 1.5 metres in length, and using the mount that came with the mini disk.

Some have described how they mount it. I don’t have it on the roof but bought a magnetic mount that I can put on the bonnet while driving even (the roof of my T5 is aluminium so magnetic doesn’t work). Even when not completely aligned, it works pretty well.

brilliant... I was thinking this too!

I use the pipe adapter with some bolts and washers on the rail, but now I am happy to have it on the floor, no performance difference

I use these two adapters, one clamps onto loads of different stuff.
The other I put on the spoiler of the T7 where it suctions down perfectly.
Neewer Mount and Neewer Suction Cup Mount both seem pretty good quality. The suction cup version is in silicone and I use both together when using the clamp version.
