Hi,
I looking for a tilting bike rack for 2 ebikes - the most popular is the Atera Genio Pro - but a review said that the rails are too close together to allow easy fitting of big ebikes - wide hubs, disc brakes etc etc get in the way.
So I looking at the Spinder TX2 which seems ideal - it won a group test here....

There's no mention of it on the forums and it's not available on the companies website (sold out), and looks like I'll need to go to a German Facebook company to get it (eye roll).

So my questions are
1) It looks perfect - is it?
2) Facebook - dodgy or not????

Thanks!

With tilting towbar-mounted bike racks, the issue is always whether it will tilt enough to allow the tailgate to open. Most don’t tilt enough.

I spent some time searching through all the various discussion threads on the topic and it seems that these two bike racks are the ones that tilt enough for sure:

- Atera Strada DL2/DL3
- Thule Velospace XT2/XT3

Even then, you’re talking 1 or 2 millimetre to spare depending on how your towbar is mounted.

So that one might work as well. But it’s hard / impossible to tell. You’d really want to buy it from a place that will let you return it if it doesn’t fit.

Thanks - did you end up buying one?

The Atera Strada is not great for ebikes - which I have - so need to go for something more robust.

I've sent the ebay guy and message (in German!) and will see if he responds - that should be a good indicator of how good customer service would be in the event of a return.

I got the Atera Strada DL3. But I don’t have ebikes so no idea about that.

With no bikes, the Strada doesn’t actually tilt far enough to open the tailgate unaided - but it can be pushed out of the way to make enough room.

With the bikes loaded, the weight of the bikes pulls the bike rack down a bit, which means that I can open the tailgate without having to shove the bike rack out of the way. Clearance is 1-2 millimetres with the removable towbar that the Volkswagen dealer here in Ireland fitted (not the factory-fitted one).

We have A Pro User Diamant SG2 Plus, carries our two Cube Ebikes, with the bikes loaded it tilts sufficiently to give around a 2" clearance when opening the tailgate of our T6 Cali.
Available from stock at GSF Car Parts.

Hi all , thanks for the replies....I actually ended up buying the "Atera GENIO PRO Advanced" which is fantastic - it can handle the weight of heavy ebikes, and folds easily and allows the tailgate to open. My worries about the rails being too close together for chunky bikes was unfounded - the bikes fit fine.

** NOTE ** I did originally buy the "Thule VeloSpace XT 2" after measuring up to see if it would fit as per the instructions on the Roofbox companies site, and did ask them to confirm it would fit before they sent it out. They sent it but the handle that attaches it to the tow bar is too bulky to allow the boot to open. I contacted them and they admitted that it was a mistake for them to send it out to me as they knew it would not fit. Anyway, they arranged the return and sent the other rack with minimal. - but AVOID the THULE if you have a T6.
