The zip has broken and I can’t get my chairs out of the tailgate!

Does anyone have any tips?

If it’s broken then you need to replace it or the entire enclosure. If so, just rip it open. There’s no magic fix.

If the actual Zip Puller has broken then it can be replaced with a properly sized replacement. Watch video. Correct sized repair kits available.

Methods for Fixing a Broken Zip Puller:
  • Use a Temporary Fix: Loop a keyring, heavy-duty jump ring, paperclip, or wire through the hole on the slider.
  • Install a New Puller Tab: Buy a zipper pull replacement and snap or clip it onto the existing slider. Use pliers to open/close the hook if necessary.
  • Replace the Entire Slider:
    1. Remove the top zipper stops using pliers.
    2. Take off the old slider.
    3. Slide the new, properly sized slider (sizes 2-10 are marked on the back) onto the teeth.
    4. Reapply new zipper stops from a zipper repair kit to prevent it from coming off again.
Key Tips:
  • Sizes: Slider sizes are usually marked on the back of the slider.
  • Tools: Needle-nose pliers are essential for removing old, and clamping new, zipper stops.
  • Lubrication: Rub a graphite pencil over the teeth if the new slider is tight.
This video demonstrates how to replace a broken zipper pull with a new one:
