Hi, over the past few weeks I’ve had two software updates come down through the infotainment system of my 24 plate T6.1. The first was a whopping 3Gb and one downloaded yesterday was a more modest 140mb. Any idea what the updates have been for?

Thanks

If you scroll down below my post you'll find the answer.

Thanks for the info and apologies for starting a new topic when the answer had already been posted. There’s just so much in the discussion group it’s difficult to k ow where/how to search!!!

Just done a bit of searching in the VW website and found this:

Useful background info and helpful hints.

I'm not sure if my van has just done the update which is the subject of this thread. One download happened when driving, the next blanked the screen and said it could only do it when stationary. This would be a pain if I was using teh Navi to get somewhere....

but...

Everything is reset. I need to go and replace all the settings. The van is now in offline mode so I guess its a bit of time with a coffee going through it all again...

Yup, mine as the same, everything reset. Easy enough to set back up and played with the settings a bit.

You had a better idea than me, no coffee for me when I was doing it.

That might explain why my car had different interior lights to normal then?
I guess so. The digi dash was very bright again, guess it's the re-set and the dial display was back to default.

EDIT:
I expected it to be more of a faff tbh. It had wiped all the users from the system. However, fired up the we connect app and then entered that email address and the we connect password into Discover Pro and it automagically restored the last settings and the switch on welcome. So, back to what it was previously... Not so bad after all.

Re this thread, I received an email from Volkswagen on Friday 27th Feb (i.e. last Friday) saying a software update was available for my VW T6.1 California, with reason for the update being related to mobile data providers switching off their 2G and 3G services and potential impact on Emergency Call Services, saying that after the update the Emergency Call service would remain fully intact even after 2G/3G switch-offs.

Acting on the advice given in the email re managing the update I went to my van and despite following instructions (which was basically turn on the ignition and wait for the update "pop-up" to appear and then follow on screen guidance), nothing popped-up and showed no signs of doing so. I therefore went into the system settings in the menu and looked at the software update screen. I've shared a photo. Was it already loaded?? There was nothing pending in the Software update advice on the various mode menu screens either, so no idea.

Given the guidance that it may take a few hours, I wondered if it had already happened, but I haven't driven the van for a while and the guidance said I would have to re-enter my login details (email and password) at the end of the upgrade - I can't recall doing this since I picked the van up from the dealer in 2022 - and I had assumed this was for access to We Connect.

I appreciate @jhgf sharing the VW Software Updates page - but I couldn't see any reference to an "Emergency Call" mobile network protection software update, so remain confused.

If anyone else has had a similar email / experience, I'd be interested to understand if you did get this software update or you are still waiting for it.

Here are a couple of photos of the System screen on my 2024 T6.1

Not quite the same as yours.

Exactly the same as your experience. Mine is a MY23, 150 Ocean.
This is my screen.

And this is mine (2023 Ocean 4Motion):

Slightly unrelated, but you can get updates to the "Radio database" from here;

I think it should update OTA but mine never has. Weirdly, as soon as you install an update manually, it "finds" the update OTA and seemingly installs it agan

It is important to understand that the software versions in all these Photos are just the infotainment system. The over the air updates (OTA) can be applied to different ECUs in the car and whilst the pop up appears on the Infotainment screen, these updates aren't shown in these screens, other than perhaps a "Complete/Finished" message. It might be the details are stored in the App, otherwise it is a diagnostics tool. The e-call ECU is separate from the infotainment.

On my 2023 Multivan the Software update for the e-Call/SOS upgrade was 145mb. After a 10 minute install I had to re-register with email and password and also re-save the S-Pin.
No Change in Infotainment Firmware/Software versions.

My update was completed today in the same way WelshGas described. The only noticeable difference so far, is the dash and infotainment screen now say ‘Welcome Jaybee’, as per my VW app, rather than John B.

Similar update on my T6.1 (Oct 2024) 02NOCU 146MB took about 10 to 12 mins to download.
Download and install were uneventful, but the restart and sync of the primary user and vehicle settings proved “interesting”
Main issue was that I could not sync the vehicle, as the sync kept stalling with “connect to internet to sync” message (even though a data connection was present)
Could not sync via the we connect portal and my account to the vehicle.
Went back into the vehicle settings and Users menu then sub menu “Become primary user”.

IMG_0479.jpeg
Enter this menu and the vehicle starts a We Connect ie “Online session”
IMG_0480.jpeg
Wait until the next screen comes up (NB do not touch the bottom “Become Primary User” tab)
IMG_0478.jpeg

(may take a couple of cycles) and then use the back arrow (top right) to end the session and I was able to sync all the user settings.
IMG_0476.jpeg
Only difference has been that the S PIN security function seems to be enabled by default.
Enter the PIN, check box to “remember the S Pin” and normal service restored.
Hope this helps

Yes, had to do exactly the same. But of a faff but ultimately successful. At least I now know why I had the upgrade and what it was for!!!

Faff, yes, my words were a bit more choice!!!

Ditto. Update, then kicked out of the system as the primary user. So had to reset forgotten password and S-Pin

Very helpful postings, thanks.
But having received the email telling me to act on a popup, there has been no popup.
Ideas anyone?

Anyone else noticed a change in the way the internal lighting is working. I can’t switch the lights on via their buttons for the ones that are operated by opening the sliding door. They also stay on while the ignition is switched on. Can’t switch off via the camping head unit like it used to.

It will "pop up" on the screen when you least expect it and Easily missed seems to repeat until you action it.
