Hi,

I have some surface rust beneath my 2006 T5, which I want to resolve reasonably soon before it gets worse. Question is, what is the best option to go for?
  • Lanolin-based products such as Lanoguard/Lanoshield - something I could do myself, reasonably easily, but needs re-application regularly.
  • Dinitrol or Waxoyl - I had a quote locally for thorough Dinitrol application underneath the van and in cavities, but it was well over £1000. Looked to be quite solid though, and doesn't need to be reapplied for several years.
  • Dynax.
Has anyone used these products and from personal experience which worked best for them? Any advice gratefully received, please.

Thanks

Not a specific answer, but on topic:

Used lanogaurd on mine 18 year old van, it was done two years ago , when it went into main dealers they commented how good it was underneath, the guys that done the work a independent garage said it should be done again in about 5years time as I do about 4000 miles a year

Lanolin-based I have personal experience. Fluidfilm Lanolin product. Done a treatment every second to third year on my -2006 T5 California with now 350kkm. I drive all year around here in Norway with salt on the roads. I rinse the car with high pressure washer after each use during the winter. Parking in a dry warm garage. The car has no rust underneath. I’ve replaced shock absorbers in the rear, and its mounting point is a good indicator for rust status. Mine are 100% free from rust.

Waxoyl let down with parafin and painted on with a long handle brush. So mush better than spraying unless you have accsss to a pro high pressure compressor/gun etc.

Very therapeutic getting into every nook and cranny.
