Rear dashcam install issues

I have just had a Thinkware Dashcam install front and rear. I have noticed that the rear camera cable gets caught on the spice rack thing that comes in and out. The installer said that this was the only way to do it because there is a ventilation block there and you cannot run it behind this (see photos). I thought there was a channel running behind all the lights and ventilation all the way to the back. I have searched this forum, but the bit about running behind ventilation doesn’t appear as a photo. Does anyone have a photo / knowledge that I can go back to the installer with please? I believe it is possible to route the cable behind the vents. I’m about to have one fitted in a couple of weeks so will be able to confirm them. This video shows a DIY install so it’s definitely possible (minute 4 in the video), a VW audio specialist can do it for you if you don’t want to take on the project yourself.

The vents simply pop out with a trim tool , there is a void behind them suitable for cable access the void is behind the plastic housing / vent / panel

Yes you can get the cable along there, behind the vents, it is tricky tho, you need to send something stiff through first then tape the cable to it and pull it through, think I used the metal inner bit of a bicycle brake cable.

It goes right along back. I did a forum post with pictures long time ago. It’s on here somewhere. Would have to find it.

Our Thinkware cameras are wired without any wire showing.

The installers routed the cable through the back of the vents using the small "pull / push sticks".

Definitely shouldn't be like that.

You aren't a million miles away from Poole where "Advanced In-Car Tech" are very experienced with VAG and Calis.

They would sort it out for a price...

Think I’ve posted on this before. I came down the other side. It’s a pig. In the end I used some super long thread together poles from Amazon and used a video guide from a Transporter installer. The bigger issue was actually getting behind the airplane locker followed closely by then dismantling the rear door trim to the wire to the camera I wanted to site directly on the glass.

I popped out the light and then used a wire coat hanger (straightened out) to push the cable into the rear cupboard. Put a torch in the rear cupboard so you can see where to aim for. TBH, I would want my money back after that install, have they also cracked one of the panels?

I fitted mine without difficulty. The lights pop out to help access (as do the vents but I don't recall needing to do this). I used electricians "fishing" poles - see Amazon, but coat hangers etc would suffice. The bit between the B pillar and the wardrobe is the easy bit. I ran power from the fuse box by the headlight switch up the A pillar, along the front of the head lining to the front camera and then around the headlining above the pax door and into the void above the kitchen, through the wardrobe and rear cupboard to the rear camera mounted on the rear cupboard. All wiring is hidden.

I installed a rear camera myself. However I decided to go driver side. It was easy to pop out rear AC control panel and quite tricky to get the cable through but it was the first time I've done it.
I'd expect experienced installer to have no problems doing it.
